Hi. I am new to to this forum so please move it to right place if needed. Want to buy a pc for around £2000 for gaming only , can you advise what would be the past spec within that price. I dont play games online or streem. Thinking about AMD processor as i heard it is better than intel. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

What res are you going to be playing at and what games do you play?

the 50 series GPUs are due out at the end of the month so might be worth waiting.

Can you build a PC or are you after a pre built system?

wait for nvidia 5000 series, it is too close to ignore right now, better to buy well, and buy once, esp with a good chunk of money like 2k!

I would change the cpu to the 9800X3D.

As mentioned above why such an expensive board ? You could get something like an MSI X870/E Tomahawk for much less.

There are new graphics cards out from Nvidia at the end of the month if you are not in a rush. Not sure I would pay £800 for a last gen card. The new AMD cards are also due Q1 2025.

You can get a 2TB SSD like the WD Black SN770 for less. A 1TB isn't much for a gaming pc.

Also W11 can be bought for around £10 from key sites. Mine has been working fine since June 2023.

Also 6000MHz CAS30 is the sweet spot for AMD.

No i ma not in the rush , thinking to buy a PC by end of Feb.
Is that msi motherboard good enought to least for years ? As i dont want to change it in few years time.
Those new nvidia cards will cost a fortune. the chepest one on OC cost £7000 ( RTX ). Unless i am missing something.

Look for the features that you want and go off that. You might not use half of the features on a £460 board, and something for half the price will do the same job. You might have slightly inferior audio, or less ports etc. Just depends on what you want.

Those prices are just 'holding prices' as they have no physical stock yet, so the price is unknown at this point.

@klewio
I'd be going for something like below..as you put a basket of £22262 and that didn't include a case, then there's still over £1k more you can spend
yes you can get a 9800x3d, but it's £80 more than the 7800x3d, and at this level, you're more likely to be 4k gaming..not sure the 18% price premium of the 9800x3d worth it...if you want the 9800x3d, import it from US. saw certain online mktplace where could import with duty for £490 odd...prices in uk are scalper prices at mo imho. $480 is £393..add vat is £472..anything over£500 is too much
7800x3d uses less power and runs cooler too. the arctic 36 freezer is a smart cooler, and runs quiet
case will fit a 4090 so wont be a problem for new cards
with the £1k+ left, wait for the end of the month and buy a 5080 card. buy an FE, s/b around the £1000 mark and from leaks is about 35% increase in performance over the 4080

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,159.93 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Are they really selling the 7800X3D as "on Sale" for £450??

god knows what has happened to this and the pricing as in June last year it was down to £315 and been creeping back up ever since

shocking isn't it. more expensive than i bought mine 2 years ago on preorder when it launched. £530 for the 9800x3d fairly shocking too

Yeah, they are both quite bad for pricing atm.

Maybe buy a cheaper processor for the time being and wait a few months and see if these go back to a reasonable price.

7800X3D has been back in stock awhile but still silly prices and the 9800X3D has been back in stock since the end of last week
