Having a debate here over our dinner.

We're having some Gammon Steaks which have been in the fridge for the last two weeks. They still look OK and they are in date until May 5th.

Are they going to kill us? :P

That's why my other half says. I'm just really picky with food...

I've had meat that's been off while still in date in the past so I'm always careful.

I see, well our sense of smell is very sensitive to gone off meat, give it a whiff.

Should last for quite some time, if it's gone sticky to the touch then it's time to start thinking about throwing it out, else it should be ok. Bacon/Gammon will keep for ages (even when it starts to go sticky you can just throw it in a sink of cold water , give it a good scrub, then throw it on the grill!).

I'm not dead yet. Was quite tasteh in the end.

I've always been really fussy about meat. I hate defrosting stuff, always buy fresh. I have "issues" with it, I have medication for it, I'm getting better! :p

They are probably smoked and will therefore keep for ages.

Nah they were unsmoked but still ages left on the date.

Still feel fine. Indigestion but I think that might be more to do with the lager and having a catnap on the sofa.

Surely I can't be the only person on here with food paranoia :p (If I'd have had my way, I've have thrown them out and cooked something else, in date or not.)

Three weeks inside the use-by date and has been kept in the fridge? Why on earth would you even question that?

If it's been opened then there's a potential problem - pretty much any meat is marked as "use within 24 hours of opening" or "use within 3 days of opening", or so on.

I regularly eat food months out of date and it hasn't killed me yet

I've eaten jarred sausages that had been left in the cupboard 3 weeks after being opened instead of in the fridge for three days after eating.

I was fine.

I can't believe you doubted sealed food that had been in the fridge and was still in date. If its 2-3 days over i make sure to cook it well, but still eat it :p

gammon wouldnt be given chance to go in date let alone outta date

i luuuuuuuv gammon :) we have a large joint each monday
