what is the minimum gap to leave between a extractor hood and the wall units next to it?

do you have to have a gap ?

do the base units and wall units need to line up ?

does this look correct ?

From what I know now I would leave a gap - my hood is 600 and have two small cupboards one either side - trouble is no matter if I put hood on speed three there is always steam/condensation on side of cupboards and it has started to lift the finish - I have no room to move cupboards out sideways.

It's dictated by the width of your hob and it's manual not the units below.

To other posters, please be really careful when confirming something is fine without knowing the facts. In order to comply the minimum distances in the hobs manual must be followed. In most instances this means a clearance of 50mm either side which assuming the hob is no wider than 1000mm should be fine with the above drawings. This isn't however always the case.

Op please check your hobs manual and it will dictate whether your proposal is suitable and compliant.

Note there is also a minimum height for the extractor (see below).

A minimum of 750mm clearance is required above a gas hob and 650mm above an electric hob to a cooker hood. The gap may be reduced to 727mm above a gas hob but the hoodmust be cleaned regularly to prevent a fire hazard.

hob is 700mm / or 750 depeding on the one we buy

the hood is 900 mm

we will leave 100mm each side and make sure its correct height

thanks Abyss

Just to add a little bit to "Abyss" post. The 750mm he mentioned above a a gas hob, is actually the distance above the burners, not the worktop. Nearly all the gas hob manufactures specify a minimum 750mm, but most gas hobs are not made in the UK. Our Gas Safe regs override anything that a manufacturer might say and they quite cleary state "750mm above the burners". In reality, that means 800mm above the worktop. The gas regs also give the minimum distance between a gas hob and any combustible material, this is 150mm. Where a gas hob is concerned, if you have Laminate upstand running around your worktop, this has to stop a minimum of 150mm away from the side of the hob.
