Gap/stall between windows loading bar and login

I do not know if this is an overclocking issue or something to do with windows. On a new windows vista install i have the following overclock (spec in sig):

FSB 300
Multiplier 9X
Ram 800MHZ
MCH +0.12
RAM voltage 2.1V

Memory timings: 4-4-4-12 (Cas 4)

However sometimes between the windows loading bars and the login page there is a 5-10 second gap where my screen flashes no connection and says to check it is connected to the pc video port and then it goes to the login page. Other times it is fine or this happens for a second or so. And other times it just goes blank and flashes the message and I have to try again restarting.

What confuses me is that it is a stable overclock (8hours stable) so I don't understand why this is happening.

Any ideas?
 
ok what I said before seemed not to be trued after further restarts. 9 times out of 10 after the vista loading bars my screen goes blank and the monitor says to check connection i.e. doesn't think its connected to PC.

I have tried:
- removing overclock
- resetting cmos
- restoring system

Completlely out of ideas.

The only time it starts (hence why I can send you this post) is when it fails after the load bars then automatically reboots and nearly always then works and i get into vista. Very Very confused :(
 
Actually seems to be working with the system restore a bit but windows is reading spu speed and etc wrong. I may simply format the drives and reinstall vista tonight. Luckily I haven't much on this PC so it isn't a biggy. Then I'll whack all the drivers on again.
 
well like a tool I reinstalled vista and then encountered the same issue after installing my GFX drivers from the CD. I then went to the Palit website and got their latest release for 64bit vista drivers for that card. I no longer have the same issue, or at least the gap is about a second and is a black screen as opposed to lost connection. Problem just an aspect of vista I suspect.

Have put back on my overclock of 333 x 9 and set RAM etc. I also raised MCH by 0.12 to account for the 4GB of RAM. Will stability test it all tonight.

This is still happening even then with the updated drivers. I think it may be due to how the display settings are set up perhaps. Sometimes I think it switches between the two monitors it thinks I have. I am unsure. This is what my current display settings show me:



Any ideas?

EDIT: happens about 50% of the time. When monitor flashes as disconnected after loading bars it just restarts PC after about 10 seconds. Very confused. All drivers are updated

Vista has this information about when it reboots itself i.e. does loading bars but then shows computer as not connected to monitor and reboots:

Interestingly enough on the Microsoft support forums someone pointed out that because I changed power supply from an OCZ 600 to a diff one (X-power 580W) that the new PSU could be causing it if it did not have a 'dual 12 volt line' which I don't even know if this new one has. I just kind of grabbed it at ****** thinking "this looks like the right voltage". Seems to coincidental that problems happened when changed PSU!

Edit: Since the problem evolved after getting the latest PSU I don't think it can cut the graphics perhaps. I am thinking of upgrading to something such as this

Have ordered the corsair. Let's hope that this brings an end to my booting up issues. It looks like a really nice PSU. Since all the issues arose after putting in the cheap PSU this should with any luck get rid the issue!!

Have installed the corsair and is very nice. Definitely a keeper but the problem still persists. These random blank screens before login and restarts after the blank screen. Still very much perplexed.

I have looked more at the error codes:

d1
BCP1: FFFFFA6045A1C00C
BCP2: 0000000000000002
BCP3: 0000000000000000
BCP4: FFFFFA6002EFD43E

I think d1 suggests that it is a video or sound issue. I am not sure. Perhaps someone knows better?

EDIT: Have just restarted 10 times without fault with the 8800GT drivers deleted and uninstalled. Going to try and get some new drivers and try my luck!

Seems to now be working. Looks like I didn't get rid of the drivers completly last time. I only uninstalled the device. Feel like a bit of a tit but I'm glad this has happened as I've learnt a fair amount and also have a better PSU which I would never have let myself buy before.

Fingers crossed for no more hickups or I'll be eating these words!
