GAP...the new logo controversy

As a graphic designer with varied branding experience I have to say that the new logo does not represent their brand values whatsoever.

Whoever rebranded GAP must have no idea what they are doing, or they are trying to be controversial, or GAP are about to unleash a new chemical range and stop making clothes.

Whats the deal? Who spends millions on brand recognition in order to wipe it one day. Something doesnt add up. It's not even April.

This is a clever marketing ploy. This has been in the news and no doubt its popping up on other forums. So when the time comes to buy something and you think to your self right "i need some clothes , what shops do i know"? the gap will be in your head where as before you may of not thought about the GAP. They will also get some publicity when they either revert back to the old one or the new logo from the suggestions.
