Garage "Broke" my radio

My car has just had a full service and MOT at my local garage. It's a 2003 Honda Civic.

When I took my car in, my radio (Honda Sat Nav Unit) worked fully, but now won't turn on at all.

What is strange, I can still sync audio from my iPhone, via the Bluetooth Parrot system wired into the speakers, but the head unit itself, and radio won't turn on. I am not being prompted for the "key code". The screen just won't power on, and I get no radio/audio from the speakers.

I have of course spoken to the garage, and they are looking at it today, but where do I stand if they say it's not their problem, and refuse to fix it (at their cost)?

As far as I see it, my radio/sat nav was fully working when I took it to them, and now doesn't work, after they worked on the car.

Cheers

This is going to sound stupid, however you don't happen to luckily have some proof that it worked before you taken it to them?

Sadly not, but why should the burden of proof be on me, when they've broken my property..

I have other witness's who can vouch it was working, but no concrete proof.

The worst thing you can do in these situations when faced with a possible dodgy garage, who have perhaps done something dodgy is to take it BACK to them!

Run a mile and get another more competant person to have a look. Have you looked online for troublshooting guides/manuals for your exact model?

I get your point, but I've used this garage for years, and this is the first problem I've had.

They are a honest garage, so I am hoping this will get resolved.
I had no issues taking a look at it for me, it just the response I may get if they can get it working again.

It could, of course, be very annoying timing

What did they do to the car? If it was things like brake pads and oil changes etc, I'm struggling to see how they would be anywhere near the radio.

Head units sometimes have additional fuses "Round the Back" but you need to remove the unit from the dash to access them.

Cool. With luck then, the Garage will do this.
I am guessing they did something to blow the fuse during the service, but they said the service doesn't go hear the car radio.

Would is be possible the the speakers work via the Parrot system, even though the head unit doesn't? I'm guessing there is a separate "amp" or something,

Car's with them (they are even going to collect it from my house, so I guess that's a good sign). Let's see what they say I guess.

It was a full service, including replacement real brakes. I too can't see what they did? Maybe they hooked battery up to something, and it caused a surge, or plugged in some sort of diagnosis system that caused a surge?

Getting jump leads the wrong way round can damage radios (Surprisingly it rarely damages anything else) It is an easier mistake to make than you might think.

Battery cable colours are really quite inconsistent across manufacturers. If the polarity isn't clearly marked on the terminals You need to check the markings on the battery or follow where the wires actually go to be sure!

(Of course, if you connect jump leads "Properly" IE Negative to engine block etc, this is less likely to be a problem)

Panic over! Garage fixed it for me.. Turned out to be another smaller fuse (not the one marked for the car radio). I guess the Sat Nav uses one of the "spare" fuse slots.

They picked up and dropped it back, which is good service :D
