Garage floor surface?

Hey all,

I am potentially buying a property with a nice decent sized garage, with enough space to work on my car in there comfortably. Currently the floor is just a concrete surface, but I am looking for something which would be nice and easy to clean, and not too costly. I considered vinyl flooring like they do for kitchens, but I have no idea really.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Kosta

I looked at getting rubber tiles as you see in a lot of the american style "show us your garage" threads a couple of years back, but they were very expensive.

Depends on how harsh the usage is going to be, most vinyl's wont wear well enough i wouldnt imagine. The best option for a cheap fix is a floor paint as they use in a lot of commercial garages.

Edit: that ebay link seems very cheap, at that price just buy a batch and see what they are like imho.

My parents used a sort of rubberised paint. Worked really well - gave a good finish and was extremely hard wearing. No idea where they got it from though, I'm afraid.

If its level then just floor paint, IMO.

If it isn't perfectly flat you can buy floor leveller that leaves a decent surface.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It is level, but concrete, so I'm not too sure how smooth it was - I'll have to note it next time I have a look.

Anything else I could consider?

If it's dusty it'll need sealing first - it's about £10 a tin and you brush it into the floor with a broom, paint on top.

I suppose... though in my experience working on concrete is fine, just sit on a matt or use knee pads etc. As for cleaning it, I've always managed to clean up spills effectively but there you go.

Ronseal stuff from B&Q they used on mine i think, grey red and another colour i cant think of now you can have.

The concrete is very dusty. I want somewhere where I can work on the car without getting dirty, without having to put cardboard down etc. And something that I can easily clean when I'm finished working on the car.

My brother has a concrete garage floor, and it's horrible doing anything in there, you end up covered in white dust, and stains don't seem to come out too easily.
