Starting a new log for my training taking place in my finished (never finished - much more to buy) Garage Gym. Getting back to basics to start off with some 5/3/1 and Oly Lifting and the Odd Crossfit Workout. Hopefully start to remove some of the timber I have accumulated over the last few years since I was pretty successful in dropping a couple of stone!.

Some Images of the Gym below and the first couple of 5/3/1 sessions as well!

nice log,

What was your reasoning to build a garage gym?

It would take years of use to get what you would have paid back from a gym membership?

While I'm not the OP, once you factor in your gym related time (to/from gym, waiting for equipment) and costs (fuel, parking, depreciation, public transport) it pays for itself in months. I can also go at any time of the day and even when the kids are napping.

I think thats man maths at its greatest there!

Local to me "The Gym" that I can be in within less than 10 minutes costs £18 a month and has more gear than I could ever practically own. Even better for a person like me who likes going late evenings, personally I like to get out the house and see other people too.

But whatever it takes for you to want to go for it works :)

I work from home a lot of the time, and when not, i am travelling a fair bit... being able to hit a quick squat session at lunch time with no end to end travel each way is (hopefully) going to lead to gains. Plus I like Oly Lifting which typically means finding a home in a crossfit box (which I have but travel is making it an issue) or putting up with dirty looks when dropping heavy weights.

The observant among you will notice I don't have a bench yet... so this was done off the 24 inch box which isn't ideal but light enough not to be a problem

Feeling nice and easy as I gently get back into it. Plan this week is to increase the additional work, metcons, cleans, snatches, rowing slightly alongside the 5/3/1 sessions.

nice log,

What was your reasoning to build a garage gym?

It would take years of use to get what you would have paid back from a gym membership?

Ease of use, no other people to contend with between swapping exercises over, or waiting for equipment to be freed up, no extra time spent going to and from the gym and not being at home. Add to this that you own the gear, so have an asset that if you really want to stop using, you can sell.

I think thats man maths at its greatest there!

Local to me "The Gym" that I can be in within less than 10 minutes costs £18 a month and has more gear than I could ever practically own. Even better for a person like me who likes going late evenings, personally I like to get out the house and see other people too.

Calls it man maths, completely ignores a key point call of Kreeees. Being able to train around family needs is huge, even being able to take 5 minutes out of the routine to help with something. You cant just pop home to help with something when you are at the gym normally.

OP nice to see another home gym'er, nice little setup you have there, the platform is very tidy, although there's a lack or plates ;)

I'm set for up to 180KG for the moment which is only going to cause problems on deadlift if I want to go heavy - current max is 200KG. Intention is to add sets of 20KGs at a time

Can confirm, being able to get a few bits of work in between conference calls, split sessions around life stuff etc is amazing.
