Just had a sparky connect up the garage to the consumer box, replaced the old fuse board in there from the previous owners (8 years ago) that never connected it permanently to the mains.
It's original electrics have two sockets but also an old fluorescent bulb lamp in there that is dim and only covers about 1/2 of the 1 car garage in what can only be described as near-dusk.

I have an old 4 spot light that I saved from the kitchen replacement, but I'm starting to think perhaps two LED strip lights may be better with a couple of additional lights at the work bench.

What do people use in their garages and workbenches?

I had some extremely bright LED flat panels in the old garage. Will be putting them up in the new garage again as the quality of light is so good from them.

Led strips from screwfix. Can put them up in minutes and a couple will easily light a whole single garage with more light than you'll ever need.

I changed our garage from old style strip lights to new led strip lights form screwfix and they are great. Instant start and the same size tubes give out many times more, brighter, light. Recommended. Easy to change as well.

As above I would go with LED strip lights and ones that are listed as doubles (not really such a thing for LED, it just means brighter for a given length).

One point though is unlike fluorescent strips/bulbs they give off light down not in all directions. This is sensible but if you have any high shelving it can make the top corners a bit dimmer than a fluorescent strip/bulb so I would always go for a couple rather than one as this will give a better spread of light. I more than doubled the lumens in my garage and thought it would be too bright but its great.

Another recommendation for the LED strip lights from Screwfix. I fitted two 6' 'doubles' and I'm considering installing another 2 and placing them better.

It all depends on the size of your garage and also if you have an up and over garage door put the lights somewhere where the door doesn't block the light when the door is up.

Great thread

I keep meaning to do this as I use my garage a lot (I fly rc planes) so often in the garage building, mending etc.

Presently have x2 6ft old school fluorescent light fittings and can take a few seconds at times to come on.

Can you share some suitable links please

Update - I decided to go with a 7300lm 6ft enclosed baton, reason being is that I've clocked the existing light and the 400W HPS (56000lm) I've hung to solve the dim light issue when doing woodworking etc. I will then see how the rest of the garage is lit, and possibly add a smaller light further down.

I have bare rafters in the garage and use the rafters to store things so the baton light approach work as it sits under the rafters.

I bought some 12v led strips and stuck them to old metal Venetian blind 'slats'.

Mounted a couple of those on a bit of board, wired up to an old laptop transformer and I've got a very bright and very flexible work light for a few quid!

I miss the lighting of my old double garage. Had 8 LED strips. 4 on the ceiling and 1 on each of the 4 walls. Massive overkill but previous owner had done it.
