Since clicking on an sponsored ad on my facebook, its now covered in garage roller doors from various companies.
I'm looking to install one as I'm building up my pressure washer setup as garage space is limited so the standard doors will need to go.

I'm wondering whos converted their standard (old style garage doors) to the new roller door styles?
Some companies offer a DIY version and some offer a 'professional install'

I'm not a builder but I want to know if the price difference between the DIY and professional install worth it?

Obviously it will depend on the brand and installer, but I used a local independent and he could buy the doors much cheaper than I could, so it was barely more expensive to get it installed, trim done etc than supply only from the manufacturer/retailers.

His discounts were greater on the electric doors too, so they were much closer in price through him than supply only.

How did you find local independent fitter / supplier?

I got one from Rolling Door Concepts, it was £795 from memory. No issues at all.

Yes thats the company thats been shoved in my face on the ads.

Also is there much difference between them all in terms of mechanics, style, and materials used?

I DIY fitted an electric roller from a company called Rollerdor previously. IIRC it was about £450 delivered & took around 3hrs to fit.

I've had 3 done in 3 years, each just under £1000 fitted by someone else. 2 were Garolla, 1 was a more of a commercial company and the door was heavier and, I think, better. Double skin insulated, it just felt sturdier than the Garolla which feels flimsy and not very secure.

my garage was built with roller doors so not really applicable but the one thing i would say is make sure you actually want an electric one, i went for manual ones and there so much quicker and easier than electric from my usage. As they're sprung they're super easy to put up or down, like 1 or 2 seconds where as electric ones take forever in comparison.

Obviously if you want to open them from the outside with a keyfob in the car it's no use but if its more of a workshop store i think electric ones are a waste of time.

Yes, had a very badly installed up and over when I moved in which failed to shut a couple of times, replaced with roller which has given me loads more wall storage space and extra security and insulation.

I want to convert my 2 up and over doors into one roller door.

I have been looking at these

Little more expensive but seems good quality

Have been looking at these to replace my up and over... How you finding it? Good quality? What spec did you go for? Colour?
No issues with it, went for the anthracite grey and no other options. It's significantly reduced the amount of dust in the garage and as I park my M3 in there it's handy with the fob to close it, also the sensor which tells you when something is in between the door opening so I know how far enough to reverse back.
