Hi guys

I have a rather crappy old sectional garage that is freestanding to the side of my house at the moment. It's about 9ft wide by 18ft long. It leaks, it stinks, the roof needs replacing as it's asbestos and the door is knackered. It all sits on top of a concrete block.

Ideally next year rather than try to patch it up and replace the door I'd like to replace it. I don't want to spend too much as we're planning on moving in the next couple of years, so was looking at options.

Brick seems to be off the table given i'd need foundations and it seems pretty expensive. Sectional are an option, as are wood?

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions as to what direction to go? I have been wanting to perhaps extend it a little bit in length and split 1/3 of it off to give me a small room to put a freezer and tumbe dryer. So was thinking about just breeze blocking 1/3 of it up or something.

Cheers

You'll need foundations whatever you put up, the cheapest will be painted blockwork but will look crap, I'd look at a timber building.

I had the exact same problem as you a few year back, moved in to a house with an old free standing wooden garage that also had some asbestos tiles that made up the roof. I replaced it with one of the sectional concrete once and have never looked back. I had a side door put on near the back so that I could have my dryer and fridge/freezer in there as well. Installation was really simple as well all done in a day, (I removed the old garage and took it to the tip)
