So Bale has officially retired today. Retiring with a full trophy cabinet. What could have been for Harry Kane.

Those golf courses are gonna get a hammering now.

Gareth Bale has retired at 33.

Absolutely amazing player in his prime and when uninjured. Never loved by the RM fanbase and I can see why with some of his antics but he was vital to some of RMs best times in the last decade.

Will be interesting to see how people remember his career.

Will he now focus on his true passion? No not winding up the RM fans. Golf.

A shame, and also a shame that his head hasn't really been in it for a few years, other than on international duty. You can understand it, somewhat, with the way he was treated at Real. But he could have easily left and still played at the highest level for any team he wanted really, but as the years went on and it became clear he was happy to just sit on the bench, collecting his wages, those chances diminished.

Absolutely incredible player, unreal at times, but I keep seeing people say "Greatest British player ever...", not a chance.

Superb player, with a number of memorable moments over the course of his career even after he lost his ridiculous pace!

There was a period of 5-6 years where he could win matches on his own. He was unbelievable during that era. I remember him by the goals he scored in the finals, one of them in one of the Spanish cup Final where he ran down the left touch line and cut back and scored the winner. The other is in the CL final where he scored with an overhead kick

The critics during that time keep putting him down, yet he kept winning trophies for them.

Great player and over all brilliant at real he helped massively in the champions leagues finals

Towards end real and him never made sense and he got allot of hate. Either way great career and won everything he could

Not surprising. Those years with Ronaldo when they won 3 CL's on the trot were ridiculous, great combo of pace, power and skill up top. Not sure if winning 3 CL's on trot will be done again for a very very long time. He unfairly took a lot of the wrap for governance issues at RM towards the back end of his career.

Did he? I thought a lot of the abuse was for the fact he never really seemed to care about the fans, was injured a lot and still managed to miraculously recover for Wales somehow. Was happy to openly laugh about the fact he didn't really care for them as well. He was on silly money and didn't seem to have much love for the club.

Like it or not, the bigger your salary the more the fans expect from you. Part of the reason Pogba was never super popular with much of the fanbase despite his obvious quality.

I thought so, i remembered Guillem Balague talking about it. But reading his article, it seems it was the distance between Zidane and Bale that was the biggest problem.

I don’t think our fanbase would have given a monkeys what he was paid if he had bothered to actually play well for more than a match or 2 at a time!

Nonsense, the guy was an absolute beast for a good number of years and just burnt his body with his acceleration.

Done it both for club and country.

Always came across as a good lad as well, trolled Madrid fans expertly as well. It would have been amazing had he done his first LA interview in Spanish.
