Yes, I remember watching it on C4 quite a long time ago and recording it. It was definitely recorded on tape at the time!

It's odd, but very funny if you approach it right.

Edit: Looks like it was 2004, still had a VCR then but not as old as I thought.
 
Bought it a few months ago when it was about £4.99 on DVD. Big fan, can't believe we don't see more of Mat Holness, he's a real talent.
 
There's already been a few threads about this.

It's one of my all-time favourite TV shows. It was massively underrated at the time (it seems to be a lot more well known now - probably due to the popularity a lot of the actors have got from other shows since).

Unfortunately I think it was so good at looking bad, I think people actually thought it was just a poorly made program and didn't realise it was a spoof.

Definitely buy the DVD if you haven't already! There's loads of extras, including commentary for each episode which is all done in character :)
 
I love Darkplace, had the dvd a few years now. Check out Man To Man With Dean Lerner as well if you like this sense of humor.
 
I never saw it broadcast originally on C4, but had heard about it so bought the DVD on the strength of the reviews...at the time the IT Crowd S2 had started so checked it out :D

Its a great spoof of 80s US TV, a sort of Twilight Zone meets Casualty if it had been penned by the British version of Stephen J Cannell...

If Won Ton finds out about this my a$%e is grass and he's got a lawnmower!

Another massive favourite of mine plus the sequel which was a Tomorrow's World spoof - Look Around You 2...Peter Serafinowicz (the co-creator) also had his own BBC show for one series :D These shows are among my favs.
