Gary Lineker: BBC Match of the Day host to leave at end of season

The broadcaster has hosted the corporation's flagship football show Match of the Day since 1999.

I know not everyone is a fan of his, but I quite like him and it feels like the end of an era.

Wonder if he might go elsewhere, or take things a bit easier? His podcast is good with Shearer and (to a much lesser extent) Richards.

A few new details -

Gary Lineker will step down as host of Match Of The Day at the end of the season, the BBC has confirmed.

The 63-year-old will continue to host coverage of the FA Cup in 2025/26 and the World Cup in 2026, the broadcaster announced.

Interestingly:

Lineker will continue with the MOTD Top Ten podcast while his The Rest Is Football podcast, which features BBC pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, will now be hosted on BBC Sounds.
Edit: It is currently available on podcast platforms such as Spotify and Apple, but this marks the first time it will also be made available on the BBC's own audio platform.

The press are reporting that the BBC want Mark Chapman and Kelly Somers to take the show on a rotating basis, but Chapman doesn't want to share... I think she'd do a good job.

Alex Scott I'm less keen on, not the best presenter or the clearest communicator. Kelly Somers would be better.

I think it seems more logical to have a male presenter as it's the men's football... I get the feeling they're keen to shoehorn a woman in there somehow. Fair enough if there was a standout female candidate, but I don't think there is. Kelly Cates for example on Sky is a great presenter.
