I wasn't sure this fit in the banter thread, but try and keep any discussion focused on the interview, not Man Utd as a club.

Excellent Gary Neville interview with LvG, well worth a read:

Louis van Gaal: It has been a very difficult start at Manchester United – but I will deliver

It's a good move getting him on board like this, as he's one of the main outlets to the fans via Sky Sports and the media. He'll also understand what LvG is trying to do much better, for future reference.

Even if he has an entire season like the one under Moyes, which is doubtful, he will be given time because he's a proven winner. The trouble with Moyes was that even with time there was no guarantee of things improving and he'd have struggled to attract quality players.

"Long-term" in football is probably, what 3 years? I think most reasonable fans expect us not to do great things for a while, but as long as there is an improvement year on year it should be (will have to be) acceptable. We just can't be having a Liverpool-esque fall for decades...

The stuff about winning the Champions League with some young, amazing kids just made me think of Fergie and how he lucked out with the class of '92... in the sense that they're talking about it as though he's a genius because of it... but perhaps he just lucked out having kids who were really, really good.

Lucked out? Sure, luck had some part to play but they spotted potential and utilised it, not to mention they had the tactical knowledge to beat other teams.... there must have been a lot more to it than just being in the right place at the right time, surely your anti-Utd bias can see through that? :p ;)

If it's about talent spotting and utilisation... who let Pogba leave/signed Anderson, Nani, Zaha, et al, for loads of money? :p If it wasn't luck, why wasn't it repeated? Even with a smaller number of players?

Let's not draw this into an argument about why players left etc - without being in the management team we can only speculate reasons, besides, the thread isn't about past decisions taken place at Old Trafford.

The point was just that Van Gaal may have just been lucky having kids who were epic/were going to be epic players, rather than it being because of him in particular.

He's also not afraid to give players air time, so to speak, from what I've read. I particularly liked a comment he previously made about "experience" not being the be all and end all, that it's all about the individual, regardless of their age/experience.
