With this being my first time using gas as a source, i'm not sure where i'm at and google is giving me various answers.

We bought a Solostove Pizza Oven. It comes with a 30mbar regulator. I also picked up a bottle of Propane, connected the regulator to the bottle and opened the valve and tried igniting the oven. Nothing happened. I re-attached it multiple times with no success, also tried lighting using a lighter incase the ignition wasn't working on the stove.

I then removed the hose from the regulator and opened the valve to see if gas came out, but nothing did. From googling it seems this is correct so not actually a decent test. After getting very annoyed and almost giving up, i remembered that the water heater runs on gas and so stole the regulator from that.

Once connected up, the oven worked great. Then when finished i disconnected the hose before switching off the valve to the sound of gas escaping.

As such, i'm now wondering

1 - Was the second regulator faulty, as it let gas through with no hose attached. But due to this fault it "works"
2 - Was the original regulator correct but somethign else is wrong?

Cheers guys, i've looked around and other than the black switch, i can't see anything else. There is a small pin hold near the top. Unsure if that's anything?

Images below to try and help. I did try popping off that red bit on the switch, but it's just plastic behind.
