Have a lovely fireplace we put in a few years back, long story short it's started to fail to light.

We had someone around to do a service, who given the way he left the fire, I wasn't impressed with (didn't even put it back together and said nothing about that before he left.)

Long story short, he was saying the TESC valve unit had failed because of battery corrosion, there was practically none, it cleaned up in seconds and I confirmed it hadn't gone anywhere other than on one contact, it was literally nothing. The fire started lighting consistently for a few weeks once sorted, but I was landed for a quote of £500-600 to replace it.

We then book it in for the service that should have taken place, afternoon before they're due to come, fire stops lighting again but with a different E00 code (it was previously E07)

I don't mess with gas appliances, no one should, not the intent here, but I'm just after input from anyone with experience of these TESC units, is it likely the valve itself is knackered if the initial ignition flame that lights the main burner is flowing, and you can hear the gas too?
