For me a BBQ isn't a BBQ unless you use charcoal or equivalent, Gas is cheating and you might aswell pick up your gas hob and set it outside.

So debate away, maybe a poll?

Charcoal BBQ, always.
The only time a gas is good is when you BBQ/Grill meat regularly - Charcoal BBQ gives a more distinct flavour to my food.

Hard choice, I think it depends how far the "party" is along and how hungry people are.

Gas is nice and quick but may aswell of been cooked inside under the grill. Charcoal method is what a BBQ is all about, can't be beat if you have the time.

Charcoal is the only way. I see no reason to have a gas BBQ outside, might as well just go inside and use the cooker.

Gas by a country mile, no faffing about trying to get it lit, add lava coals for that BBQ taste and it is more controllable.

Chacoal. Barbecuing isn't supposed to be easy. You're meant to stand around for half an hour staring at the gathering clouds, watching the embers fade and wondering whether the damn thing will light before you hit 12am.

Remember that things take longer on a barbecue, so realistically you'll have to cook the food for slightly longer than you're used to.

Vegetables - six hours
Halloumi - three days
Sausages - one week
Hamburgers - two weeks
Steak - four months

At this rate the meal should be ready in time for Hallowe'en.
