I have a Gateway DX4300-11 machine for two years now and since two weeks ago I keep getting a message that the monitor has lost signal. Ths happens after 10-15 minutes after turning the machine on. I am then unable to use the power button to turn off the computer and have to resort to unplugging it from the wall.

I have changed the monitor, the video card, the vga, dvi and hdmi cables and the same problem persists.

I have contacted gateway technical support and they are telling me it is a hardware problem.

I have gone to control panel and changed all the power options to never and have doubled checked that the computer has not been set to sleep. I have booted up and allow it to stay on the BIOS screen and the monitor still lose the signal even though the PC remains on.

I just don't know what else to eliminate and wondered if anyone here could help.

Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
8 GB RAM
I TB HDD
ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics card

If the full specs is needed then "dx4300-11" can be googled. Thanks.

Thanks RJC. The monitor lost the signal after five minutes and before the memory test finished running.

I was able to run the memory test which came back fine. Any other suggestions as to the likely cause please?

you say you've changed the video card, then mention it has integrated graphics, do you have the same problem off both video sources ?

also, check in the bios and make sure the onboard video is disabled.

Yes I have the same problem with either video card. What I don't understand is why the system would work for a while and then just lose the video signal. More puzzling is why it is not allowing me to use the power button to turn off the machine once the video signal has been lost.

I have done everything I know for trouble shooting, short of changing the motherboard there is no other test/elimination I know of that can be done.

daft question but is the system still powered on after it loses signal ?

what sort of temperatures is the cpu running at ?
