Anyone do any gathering be it wild berries or shell fish and everything in between.

Can you recommend any books websites on this pursuit, I fancy trying it, especially razor clams, but not sure where a good place is around Bristol area, if any.
 
I seem to recall there being a definite emphasis on foraging in Valentine Warner's TV shows, so his books might cover the same ground?

Alas, neither feature in my collection so I can't check for you and make sure.

And Hugh Double-Barrelled has definitely covered things like razor clams in his shows (Rick Stein too) so it might be worth looking over his tomes should you have the chance.
 
I don't know about location for razor clams but I know you pour table salt down the hole then they rise out of the sand. I should imagine any beach which doesn't have a great footfall will have a good few of them about, I've seen what certainly look like the "holes" on cornish beaches a bit, and dotted around Devon.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall has quite a bit of it covered in his books and on the tv show.

I've got a mushrooming book from the RHS at home which is quite comprehensive, I'd recommend it, mushrooming is very satisfying I must say. Always remember though, if you aren't sure, don't even pick it. Theres a lot of nasties about which look tasty treats but aren't.

Backberry's they grow at the side's of a rocky lane, if i'm going that route on my mountain bike always take a pastic tub. There's a lot of neetles round here, being thinking of making a soup for a while.
 
Thanks, the river cottage handbook series looks good. Any ideas if there's an entire set, or do you have to buy separately.
 
There's seemingly hundreds of the damn things, so you be better off picking and choosing the ones you want.

Of the books that Hugh has penned, I'd start with The River Cottage Fish Book and The River Cottage Year.

And there's a couple of decent companion guides too; Edible Seashore: River Cottage Handbook No.5 and Hedgerow: River Cottage Handbook No.7.
