with my new x1900xt I am playing Prey and Fear @ 1600x1200 with all options maxed and it runs beautifully. <snip>
What drivers are you using?
I'm playing Prey atm, but when I set res to 1600x1200, the menu screen seems to be too big. It stretches off the right-hand side and bottom of the screen. It's the same in-game, only the top half of the player's weapon is visible, and the bottom and right side of the view are cropped.

I've tried 6.7, 6.8 and Omega drivers but it's the same. All other resolutions are fine.

Back on topic,

Get the X1900XT, and spend the rest on a new monitor :)

I did consider SLi although i think the only thing the 7900GT runs faster than a x1900xt at is in the RMA dept. :D

I'm guessing by the biased joke you just made your getting the X1900XT.

Just make sure you replace the X1900XT's stock cooler, its very loud... zalman VF900 is recommended, easy to install and remove..

I'm guessing you mean 1280*1024, in that case you could try a single 7900GT and overclock it... and maybe later if you need the extra performance get another one and SLI it.... The 7900GT's overclock like crazy and allot surpass 7900GTX speeds with ease especially with 3rd party cooling...

But that would depend on how lucky you feel getting a good overclocker... :p

Just an alternative, as its gives u more options in the future..

the only way a 7900GT will surpass a 7900GTX is with volt modding which invalidates your warrenty.

Add that to the fact that even with a volt mod it won't be much quicker than a stock X1900XT which in turn can be overclocked outweighing the 7900gts advantage.

Add that to the fact you have an extra 256mb of vram which will be beneficial in future games then the X1900XT seems the obvious choice to me.

X1900's really don't overclock well and don't gain much performance from it either so I don't agree. :)

a 7900GT is on a par with a 7800GTX and 2x 7800GTX would score around 8500 with your opty (if its dualcore) where a x1900 would score around 6500.

Go for the HIS one if possible, I think they can be had for £220, you keep your warranty and it sucks the air out your case unlike fitting a vf900 on a standard one.

X1900xt for me and at the amazing price they are on this week only £199 inc vat. , the overclockers 7900gtx is on this week only too but is a whopping £64 more thats all that needs to be said really :)

i think the most important question is which psu do you have? If its a monster id say an x1900xt and maybe go crossfire at a later date when needed.

Ati suck more power nvidia.

In fact sod it id put a grand away while i have it and go for a component upgrade.
cpu,mobo,ram,and gfx

I still prefer single card solutions as it seems a lot less hassle, not that I have experiance with SLI/XFire but thats my 2p worth. For £230 (HIS) I think its one of the best decisions I have made.

Just done exacly that m8. And you are spot on, its an incredible card. The best upgrade i've ever done
