Gay Fan Solution

Got to wonder how those fins on the fan actually push any air at all, they're damn near vertical :/

It's a centrifugal fan, not an axial one.

It "blows" air out of the side in parallel with the fins on the heatsink. That's why there's a plastic cover over it, to maximise the airflow over the entire surface of the 'sink.

I did exactly the same thing with an Akasa amber fan to an old AGP 6800LE. It had a copper heatsink and cowling so it was a perfect and extremely quiet solution, and reduced the cards temps by 15 degrees, even compared to the original fan being on full blast. The only difference is I was able to use cable ties :D

I was also able to up the voltage and overclock it by about 50Mhz more thanks to the reduced temps :) (Not bad when your talking about 350 to 400Mhz :) )

Anyway, well done! Now try O/C'ing it :p

I'll rake out a picture but I had a graphics card with a passive heatsink once. I got some old isa card, ground off all the electronics off it, drilled vent holes and superglued a 120mm fan to it and put it in the slot next to my gfx card. Worked a treat but looked like doggy doo doo! :D
