New PSU, or can I use a splitter?

PSU is Corsair CX 430W v2
GC is R9 270X

So it should be fine running one of the 6 Pin connectors of the molex? Just got to hope the card comes with an adaptor. The PSU is a single 12v rail design and provides 28A/336W according to the spec.

The annoying thing is this is for my brother and my PSU has 4x6-Pin PCIE connectors.. none of which I'm using. If it doesn't work I could always lend him my PSU until he can afford an upgrade.

Thanks all.

There should be a sticky for this.
Agreed, there are lots of threads out there about this all with conflicting info. A definitive stickey would be a big help.

Haha, no, that's my brother.. didn't know he'd already asked.

I'm confused now, Gregster you say in that thread "You can only draw 6 - 10 watts from a molex". If that's the case why do GC manuf provide molex-pcie adaptors? HDDs can pull more than that during startup aswell.

No the card is for my brother, he has an Athlon II x4 @ 3.5GHz on stock volts. Max total consumption on his system when stress testing is 140W IIRC.

There should be plenty of power and it should be capable of supplying it's rated values (it's not a no name £10 jobby).

In any case it's only a temporary solution, he will buy another PSU asap.
