Hi people, just wanting some oppinions on my options.

Currently I have a Dual core opteron 165, Asus A8n, 2Gb ram with a nvidia 7800GT. I was thinking of just upgrading the graphics card sometime soon, as I can upgrade the system another time.

Maybe an 8800GT a worthy upgrade?

TIA

Garz

Is there maybe an ATI equivelent, as im looking to spend circa £150 or thereabouts if the upgrade was a decent improvement. Im using a single dislay 19" flatscreen 1280 x 1024, mostly play WoW but may invest in another 19" display.

a 8800GT will beat most if not all ati cards out at the moment. the OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) would be the card to get around your price range. your PSU may decide what card you can have though.

Hi Garz,

Welcome to the forums :)

make sure to read the forum rules and please do not put your hands inside the cages

The 8800GT 512MB is an excellent graphics card and the prices on it are just starting to drop back down to normal. There is also a cheaper card that is worthy of consideration and thats the Radeon HD3850 256MB, it gives very good performance at 1280x1024 and is about £60 cheaper the the Geforce 8800GT 512MB.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

My power supply is currently a Hiper 580w type. Will this be fine to run the 8800GT range?

It might be ok, but I wouldn't run one off that. The Hipers have a habit of going bang. ;)

thats a little harsh lol but yes the "hiper 580 type r" have had problems but on a whole are a very good psu and 580w is more than enough for an 8800GT :)

Hope you don't mind me jumping into this, but am in a similar situation, have a amd 4200 x2, and a abit an8 ultra motherboard, would a OcUK 8800 GT be the best card for my system? Have a antec true power 400w at moment, so guessing I would need a new psu?

Thanks.
