Just after some advice guys, Ive had DSLRs in the past and usually the first thing to be sold off if I want cash for another gadget.

Thinking of picking up a budget Canon body (1200d) with a 50/1.4 Canon lens. Question is whether to also pick up a Speedlite 430ex?

Will be used mostly for;

Fiancee collects expensive pottery, so some very classy shots of those (she may be writing a book and using said photos)
Portraits of family / pet
Shots of my car
Various junk sold on ebay
Also like the idea of shooting 1080p video after seeing some stunning vids on youtube

With a 50/1.4, will a ceiling bounced flash add anything to the mix?

Likewise any suggestions on body would be good, 1200d or 600d?

Just a thought, but if you are in the habit of selling it after a while, why not just buy second hand in the first place and save yourself from loosing that much in the resale? Check out MPB Photographic for really good prices on second hand gear, you can probably get a much better body for the price of a new 1200D and it'll come with 6 month warranty as well.

As far as speedlights go, if you are really on a budget, have a look at the "Yongnuo YN-560 II" it's a manual flash that you can use of the body if you plan on taking tabletop/product photos. You can pick these speedlights up for around £40 new, but you will need triggers aswell, which will set you back another £20.

Also consider getting some form of softbox to minimize reflections and glare on shiny items ;)

agree, grab a yongnuo manual flash, you dont even need triggers you can just leave in on the camera to save some cash.
