Gear squeaking?

I noticed my gear knob started squeaking out of nowhere, after sitting in traffic for about an hour on Thursday. It's still there, what I can only describe as a grindy squeak whenever I shift gears.

Rather unsettling tbh, just thought I'd check with you guys? Anything I should be concerned about?

These are on mechanical linkage I guess, at least in one direction. Pull the gaiter off, should become apparent if the noise is coming from the joints under the knob.

Had that problem on mine. Swapped the stilton for wensleydale and it's been running sweet as a nut ever since.
