Gearbox issue

Hi chaps,
Odd problem with 5th gear, 2ltr 03 focus with 52k on it.

When I change into 5th (and only fifth) the as I release the clutch pedal, the gear stick will often jump out, and I'll have to either reengage it, or really fight to keep it in.

Has been getting worse over past couple of days. What is it, synchro?

Don't own a Focus, but the Haynes manual for my own car reckons that jumping out of gear can be due to gear linkage, synchro, or selector forks. I'd imagine those fault areas would apply to any manual gearbox in general.
