Gearbox replacement cost

Quick question. How much would I look at replacing the gearbox on a 1.9 TDI W-reg Clio plus a new handbrake cable. Take into account that it's London prices (if such a thing exist). Won't be going for new box.

gearbox will be 5 or 6 hours labour @ an average indy rate of about £50/£60 an hour so £360 worth of labour top end

plus cost of your 2nd hand gearbox.

Quick look around shows this shouldnt be too much if you want a salvaged one

Which funnily enough exactly what I've been quoted. I would love to shop around a bit more but I need the car back on Monday (well, girlfriend does) so I guess it's a go then.

£500 for a gearbox replacement isnt expensive at all. yes you might be able to shop round and get an indy that only works for £50 an hour and can get a gearbox £10 cheaper orwhatever, but if your in a rush, then be content with your not being ripped off and have it done.
