well after clocking up 1000miles with his new block in his scoob my bro decided to "give it some" last night and smashed 1st 2nd and 3rd so were looking for a replacement box,..

sti 6 speed or an rs one, i hear the rs has slightly longer gears then the sti anyone know?

thanx

daz

Don't know RS 'box.

6 speeder and PPG 5 speed kits are quite similar in fitted price. Don't know what the deal is with DCCD though.

never heard of an RS box either, did you mean RA?

dccd will need a seperate controller, they cost about £400, even without the dccd the 6 speed is still considered one of the strongest around without looking at straight cut affairs.

will be my upgrade of choice when mine goes pop :)

i havent got any details, just a note one my lappy saying "Daz look for a 6speed box trashed mine last night 1st 2nd 3rd gone"

so a strong box will be a must for 360bhp+

theirs a 04 STI version 8 6 speed + linkage on the bay but would it go with a 96/97 classic uk turbo?

rs is the 2.5RS US car non turbo it has slightly longer gears than the sti box iirc

6 Speeder will fit although its a fair bit heavier than the 5 apparently. As long as you have rear diff and prop etc.

AFAIK JDM 6 speed will go into a UK classic with just the prop as rear diff is same ratio. Not sure on classic STI.

Also, some prefer staying with 5 speed over 6 speed due to the gearing. PPG is short 1-4 and strenghtened UK 5 for the motorway.

I would say he needs to drive a couple with different setups to see what he likes before buying.

Personally, I have no idea as I've never driven either.

Dont know anything about scooby boxes but PPG boxes look like a work art from what Ive seen for the 200.

Friend runs the ppg gear set in his scoob.

1st through to 4th changed with 5th saying as stock.

The ppg gears obviously make a fare bit of noise but it sounds kinda nice I think :D He has giving his new box a good amount of 1/4 work and track and so far 100% reliable :)

Runs about 340bhp atm

hes going for an sti 6 speed off the bay i think
the car will be running 360ish if not already, hopefully when its all done this is a little setback for an apexi ecu and anyF tuneup :/

2.5sti short
uk turbo port and polished heads
hks exhaust header ported to same size as the heads
ported td05 16g turbo 1.1/2 boost (tdo6 20g comp housing+wheel in future for the push to 400)
straight through s/s from the turbo
walbrough 255 fuel pump
ajustable fuel reg
uprated xxxcc injectors (not yet fitted carnt remember flow)
uprated fuel rails (not arrived)
scooby clinic tuned ecu (repacing with apexi powerfc + andyF tune)
induction kit
apexi boost cont (soon)

its a lovley motor bodywork all std nice alloys tein susp sti interior

btw whats the difference from the ukturbo inlet to the sti red inlet?

daz n baz

what would you think anywhere near that guesstimate?? hopeing for more boost (1.5ish) when he gets bigger injectors in and remapped. i know he does have a different ecu their that does boost upto 1.7 it was in before but got fuel cuts/limiter even after we put a vaccume pipe back on lol (missed one off o.0 )

I think the scoob 16g tops out at around 350bhp ish

Which I would gues would be around the 1.6bar mark :)

Not a scoob expert though but 350/360 is near to the turbo's limits

16g is more like 340-350tops! Normally around 320 though to be honest.
So yeah basically your brother isn't running all that much power.. maybe he just doesn't like to treat the gearbox nicely? :p

full bore launches rock.

stop,
put in gear,
hold on limiter,
sidestep clutch,

....

isnt that what scoobies are designed for? :p

Yes, but it's not good for clutch or gears. The STi gears are pretty solid, but WR X/UK2000 ones are made of tin. The odd launch now and again is fine, but too many means picking cogs off the road and/or a new clutch.

he just told me how he did it, he got pull by the police for "beeing out too late" which is pathetic and non of their buisness they did a full check on the car tyres engine everything, so he was abit pee'd off and did a hard launch and smashed the box, we got the box out last night we were just awaiting a new one now, hes gone to get the fuel rails. whats a safe boost lvl for a 16g? would the td06 comp house and wheel be a better option

1.4 bar is about the limit that mappers set on TD05 16gs, average of about 1.3bar though on standard UK internals (not forged like STi models which can handle much more boost)
