Gears Of War 2 Multiplayer Tips?

I was terrible at gears 1 so much so I gave up playing online! The matchmaking system on gears 2 doesn't seem to be helping me at all, I have been playing with the bots on hardcore and I do get some kills in. But online it seems like a whole different matter.

I'm normally quite good with MP games, bad company and COD I have quickly got myself to a decent level with a good number of kills to my own death ratio.. but gears I plain suck at and feel sorry for my team for being so lame! - Maybe I panic too much as the pressure is on not to die!?

Any tips on how not to die every round without getting any kills in?

Pick up frag grenades, "fagtag" people with them, repeat. Also remember that the bots AI is really poor in gears, they're really dumb but have ridiculously good aim. They're still a hell of a lot easier to kill than players though.
