Geek Pet Hates.

My boss when copy pasting doesn't ctrl click multiple cells to paste into, he pastes each cell individually. So infuriating. I've told him and he's watched me do it the other way, but some people just don't want to change.

Here's a new one:

When you are explaining to someone how to do something and they double click too slowly so the application/file doesn't launch. You know yourself that waiting longer isn't going to help the situation but something prevents you from telling them right away and you wait with them until shortly telling them 'try again'.

Hah yes! And my boss always sits there for ages moaning about how slow the PC is. Spastic.

My one is people using the term modem for ADSL and Cable kit.

A modem is a device that converts digital to analogue, ADSL and Cable terminal adaptors don't do this, so they aren't modems. And any way a proper modem should make screeching sounds and have a row of lights on the front.
By "people" you mean almost everyone?

I guess people asking for hoovers, sellotape and velcro when they have no intention of buying those brands annoys you too?

Pretty much everything that's been said already, but above all else...

Typing with one hand/finger.

I HATE it when my mum asks me to help her on the computer. She types with one finger and I can only stand it for all of 30 seconds before I move her out of the way and get her to dictate whatever she wants to write.

10 words a minute? No thanks!

People who confuse RAM with HDD capacity

One of my friends once said his iPod had loads more storage space than his computer because his iPod had 16Gb compared to 2Gb :o.

People who choose a low resolution on an LCD monitor to make things bigger.

My last two jobs both used 17" 1280x1024 native monitors for all terminals yet insisted on running them at 1024x768

My geek hates:

When people leave don't delete installers once they've installed a program.
When people never empty the recycle bin
When people have very unorganized PCs are store pictures/documents/music all over the place, especially desktops
Cluttered desktops
Seeing thousands of icons to the right in the systray

Programs stealing focus.

Even more annoying: programs that require you to restart your computer after installing or uninstalling. Also, that Windows Update thing that sometimes pops up and forces you to restart. You can click a button "Restart later", but it just comes back after a while. And if you're running a full screen program at the time and don't click anything, your computer shuts down without warning.

**** like Adobe Updater that sticks icons on the desktop, quick launch and start menu whenever it updates. Audible.co.uk software is similar. Creates a start menu folder whenever I RUN it. But I want to keep my start menu organised ffs.

In fact now I started on Audible... The program's volume control lowers and raises the master Windows volume rather than its own volume (thank god for Win 7 mixer) and there is a progress bar, but no way of clicking on it to jump to a certain part in the audiobook! You can't even specify a time to jump to. You have to hold down fast-forward. :/ Utter POS. Good job I only use it for Ricky Gervais's stuff.

Folk who type "I brought this item last month and now I am selling it" in their eBay ads.

Brought??. BROUGHT!!!???.

What exactly did you BRING!!!!?. :p

And also, it's probably already been said but those folk who use Caps Lock and leave it on. Just tap and hold SHIFT when you want a capital letter for the love of god!!!!.

Surely you hate the caps lock key then and not the people that use it how it was intended to be used? Rather irrational though.

Good one! :D

People who touch the monitor to point out something to you. Bonus aggravation points are earned for doing so while holding the mouse in their other hand.

Some of you people are making this stuff up... You must be?!

My pet hate is people having pet hates about completely innocuous things.
