can anyone help? i need a budget card that can run BF2, budget is £70. I found a geforce 6600 ddr2 256mb. Is there anything better for this price range?

seriously consider the 6600gt(500mhz version), the normal 6600 is pretty poor and barely faster than the fx5950. even a 9800pro is better than the normal 6600 and thats a slow card imo.

look at these vga charts: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/05/vga_charts_vii/page4.html

hopefully someone will come along and tell you how well a 6600 plays bf2, but i certainly wouldnt expect to play at more than 800x600, u may even be stuck at 640x480 due to low fps.

This is all for my bro who im makin a budget pc for, this is what the list looks like so far

80gig seagate hdd (spare one i have)
GF 6600 256MB DDR2 PCI-E DVI
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Socket 939 512KB
Corsair Memory VS1GBKIT400 PC3200 2x512MB CAS2.5
asus sli deluxe (a spare board i have)

a few pennies more and u can get the gt, even the 128mb one would be better than a 256mb vanilla. also u could maybe buy cheaper memory?

I have a AGP geforce 6600 128MB and I can play BF2 fine on high quality at 1024x768. This is using a X2 3800+ with 1GB Corsair ram.

I did have it running at medium quality at 800x600 with a geforce 6600, AthlonXP 3000+ and 512MB ram. The loading times on this pc were very slow though.

As mentioned the 6600GT is quite a lot faster, so if you can afford it i'd go for it.

i hear though the 6600 can easily be clocked to the same speed as the gt?

i couldnt decide on the memory either, but i think it is important and 57 quid for memory like that is pretty good.

im gonna overclock the cpu tp 2.4 ghz and set the memory timings, bring the 6600 to the 6600 gt clock speeds and i think for £280 it will be better than him buying a pc from a shop for the same money.

nah the 6600 is like 300/500, the gt is 500/1000, both 128bit, so the faster the better.

grrrrr PCI-E!! :)
----------------------6600 GT---6600 DDR2---6600----6600 LE
Core Clock (MHz)---------500-------350------300-------300
Memory Clock (MHz)------500-------400------275-------275
Memory Data Rate (MHz)-1000-------800-----550-------550

maybe i could overclock it a little?

plus is a 6600 better than an fx5950 ultra

It will run BF2 perfectly adequetly at medium detail at 1024x768.

You should be able to overclock the core on a 6600 nearly 100% and the memory a fair way as well.

My 6600 hit 550 on the core and 580 on the memory bus.

Just as a guide I got a 6600gt and it can play CSS ok apart from the militia map, fps drops so its unplayable, not sure if BF2 is as graphics hungry?

I more or less solved it by putting everything onto medium settings, damn it Ill have to upgrade im sure :(

just got that system plugged the 6600 ddr2 in and installed bf2 and its fine, running it on mdeium settings at 1024 + 768 and it looks nice and smooth play, really think people understimate some of the cheaper cards.

Good, gload you got your budget and performance. the 6600/6600gt is the new Ti4200 card, great value and performance combined...you could even o/c...

Yea i did give overlockin a go got it to something like 450/750 but if i bought xfx version i would have got more out of it.
