geforce 7600GS problem

I've just got the XFX Geforce 512Mb 7600GS AGP and I can't get the drivers to install. Either the pc hangs when copying hte last dll file or shows a black screen with rows of white triangles before blacking out altogether. On each error a reboot starts up the pc without the drivers.

I tried going to xfx website d/loading drivers & using them (even though they are an older version) incase there was a problem with the files. No joy. I've asked thier tech support, but am not hopegful of a reply this side of easter.

I did ask about compatibility beforehand (elsewhere ) and was assured it woudl be ok. All other system drivers are as up-to-date as can be - machine was built in 2002.

System spec:
Athlon XP 2600+
Zalman flower CNPS-6000Cu
Epox 8rda+
2Gb DDR PC2700
80G Seagate
X-power 450W PSU - brand new

previous gfx card: xfx geforce fx5200 128Mb

have you tried removing all traces of the drivers using driver cleaner pro? install that and run it in safe mode. also it might be worth checking if you have the latest bios for your motherboard.

Thanks, that seems to have sorted it.
I totally forgot about using the driver cleaner sw after manual removal.

Although I had to use older drivers downloaded from XFX as the ones on the CD wouldn't install: "Error performing inpage operation"
