im wondering if anyone can tell me if the problem i'm having is hardware based or not.

i loaded up Battlefield 2 today and encountered large parts of the screen flashing white/green/blue etc, rebooted, loaded it up again and the problem was gone for about 10 secs and then returned, i then played COD2 and saw strange pink "globs" right in the distance, put Medieval 2 on and could see no problems but i might not have left it on long enough for the problems to return

i tried to get a picture but the flashing lights don't show up

any help would be much appreciated

i don't think its overheating but haven't got anything to check it with, no problems on windows desktop either

i considered it might be overheating but can't see how it could be, does it sound like the ram on the card is going?

gonna boot up prey and Hl2 and check them now, is it worth ringing EVGA?

cheers

you can check the cards GPU temp with the nvidia control panel tool.

7950's do run hot iirc. (90°+ not unheard of under full load). iirc the G71 is stable up to 130°. Not that *I'd* ever want to see it that high...

Are you using stock cooling? How long has it been OK for prior to this?

using stock cooling, not overclocked and had no problems prior to this

i got the card the early august and have had no problems with it.
i thought overheating problems are white triangles, the green and blue and the flashing seem a bit strange for cooling problems but what do i know?

thanks again

Display corruption cames in all shapes and sizes unfortunately. I'm still hedging my bets towards overheating.

Check those temps (leave it running, tab out and look at the info) - if thats all fine, try a clean driver reinstall first off.

Plenty of cooling in the case? Graphics card cooling is always relative to the environment it's in. I had cooling problems with my Dad's CPU, but it was only due to poor case ventilation...

ive left the temperature monitor running for the past 12 mins, tried Medi2 and prey and it dosent exceed 74-76, case is a lian-li pc-7, well ventilated and haven't had any problems yet

which are the right drivers to download for this card? i go to nvidia's site and am unsure which ones i need

thanks again

right i think you guys are right and its overheating, i can't find the uk tech support number for evga, if its faulty will they send out a replacement?

there's no visible reason why its overheating and the thought of sending it away for diagnosis is not a happy one

Why do you think its heat. They run hot as hell, 90's is not a problem. They'll want it back to check it. Can you get a screen grab?

Probably not your problem by the sounds but check all the connectors anyway, to make sure they aren't loose or any pins are bent.

hmmm it's not running any higher than 80 ish i don't think, ive opened the case and unplugged the ide connector for the cd-rom which may have been causing it to overheat and it seems to be running quite abit faster in prey,medi2 and HL2ep1, before i did this i started seeing squares of triangle like shapes dotting the screen and then it would just crash, but the wierd thing is i never needed to do this before

if you go to the evga website and register the card there technical help email system thingy is quite good, i had the same card and emailed them when i had a problem (trying ot install vista rc1) and they replied within 24 hours... (can't install rc1 with any card in sli cos it crashes out the install).

Do you mean that the IDE connector was blocking the airflow to the card? That would indicate a heat issue. But if you meant you weren't powering the CD-ROM and if started working, then it could be a power issue (as in not enough power).
