Hi there. Just ordered a BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC2 512MB. This will be running on Vista x64 with 4gb ram and an X2 6000+ cpu.

I game at 1360x768 on a 32" HDTV. I intend to run AA and AF as i like the eye candy but is the card I've ordered overkill for the resolution I game at?

I wouldn't say overkill, I'd say it's ideal for that resolution as you'll even get pretty decent performance out of Crysis. Love playing it on my 720p TV. :)

just put the eye candy as high as possible and enjoy the smooth gameplay on as many games as possible.

That's what I fully intend to do. Just worried I'd spent too much on the card when I could have got something more basic. It's just that isn't 1360x768 considered a fairly low res?

The BFG 8800 GT OC2 card runs CoD4, UT3 and Bioshock perfectly at 1600x1200. So think of it like this. You have purchased a card which may be a little overkill for your resolution but you are future proofed in the event you may change to a higher resolution.

I cannot comment on PES 2008 and CMR Dirt as I do not have them :)

For the price, you have purchased a top-notch card. If you had purchased something more expensive, say for example a GTX, then yes... consider that a waste of money!

im able to run cod 4 maxed out at 1920x1200 so you should have no problems on a big telly (id love to do it myself, but i aint got a big telly:()

Thanks for all the replies. Just got an E-mail to say my order has shipped. Can't wait! This GFX upgrade has cost me much less than previous ones: spent £300+ on both a 9800 pro and an x800 xt. I think the performance i'll get from the GT will be better (comparatively) speaking than previous upgrades.

Don't think it's an overkill at all - people tend to say that more powerful cards are wasted on lower resolutions, but it's not really that simple when you start adding anti-aliasing in droves. That card will be great for your system, and in honestly I use the 8800 GTS 512MB which is a little bit more powerful on a resolution that is barely higher than what you game at and it's brilliant for me, so I'm sure you'll be happy as well.

I got myself an 8800GT for my new rig, and I only play at 1280x720 on my projector - it's great to whack the details up to full, and the AA/AF up too, on almost any game, and still have good performance.

Crysis does struggle a little, but then that struggles on almost everything at full details! ;)
