Well as usual i see that its almost £150 more in England then in the US what a suprise.

Why do we all stand for this crap on almost everthing we buy.

£430, ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

as to the "as usual" part. we actually rarely pay significantly more for most basic computer parts. LCD's get a VERY hefty increase in price vs states/asia. CPU's in general, gpu's and most other stuff go for good prices.

I'm just saying in general we actually pay similar prices once you do the conversion and add vat, they pay sales tax, they just pay tax in a different way so its not added to price in shops.

THe main issue with early prices is price gouging on apparent low stocks and apparently being the only people around to have them.

Never understood the lcds. When you factor in import, vat and exchange rate conversions its a bloody rip off. The samsungs are made in Hungary and shipped off to the US yet its still much cheaper there.

the Uk is one of the highest earning and highest taxed nations on earth... the prices are higher because our economy allows it.

I have no idea if theres a legitimate reason why, but Samsung for instance charge companies simply more per panel if said panel is going into a monitor for sale in the UK/EU, afaik its NOT duty, or anything else. Samsung simply charge more for panels coming here.

I assumed OCUK cheapo 24's were some loophole, company buys them over there, then ships them here and OCUK essentially buy them as the "customer" as opposed to the reseller and so avoid the clause of those screens being sold in the uk.

But like i said i have no clue at all what makes samsung do this. A company further down the line charges them double for some part in the panel if its to be sold in EU because of some legitimate tax that other company will have to pay somewhere i can't say. But as it stands it simply appears samsung charge 2 prices to the same company, say Dell, for screens being sold in different countries which seems to imply the "we'll screw you because you idiots pay anyway" methodology.

First bluray Sony sold on their OWN website was $1000 , it was listed as £1000 on the uk site. THey make it, duty's not going to be a 100% price increase. infact if you look at duties theres very little in terms of duty applied to a product, i mean, most countries have duties on various things, its not like our monitors have a 90% duty and other countries have 10%. I think we pay something quite low 8-10% for a basic monitor, if it has TV displaying ports(i guess hdmi, component) i think it has higher duty but its like 15-20% duty still. I would assume the USA isn't letting duty slide, they like everyone else make money where they can, even a 5% basic minimum duty isn't far off what we have so i simply do not accept that as the reason for higher LCD costs.

USA only get 3mths warranty as standard don't they? so that could explain at least some of the markup when buying here.

it is an insanely taxed country though - the middle classes pay for everything, the poor sit on their azz collecting dole & churning out 6 kids, the rich reap all the benefits and get richer.

US prices are without sales tax which gets added at checkout, furthermore you can't compare it without looking at the total picture, healthcare insurance and also car and house insurances are much higher in the US.

And as said in this thread the taxes and prices in the Scandinavian countries are even higher, we went to Bergen, Norway with the company once and a pint of beer was ~11 euro.

It's no use mentioning this everytime a new piece of hardware comes along, either shut up and take it up the backside or move to the US

this country = *#!"£

Cant stand it, i import a lot of my components. But what are we going to do?

We are a country of moaners but do * all about it... ahhh welll.

And our taxes etc are over the roof... i think you'll find were the most heavily taxed country and a lot heavier than U.S and were smaller!

Oh and beer may be dear but in 78% of Britain's pubs its watered down slightly. You wont taste the difference but you certainly wont get drunk as quick.

EU serve real beer! not cheap watered/filtered crap!

When you buy a proper beer from a pub, why do you think its far more expensive than a pint of Carlsberg?

Price: £299.99+VAT (£352.49 inc VAT)

BUY NOW!!

Typical price in the US is $599 (£299). After adding UK VAT the price translates to £352 which would still be too flipping expensive for what it is.

The 3870X2, or 2x8800GT's are much better value. The 9800GX2 is a lemon unless they get the price below £300.

edit: Damn! Gibbo beat me by seconds. £352 undercuts everyone in the UK by a wide margin.

Because they know you are willing to pay a premium price as it is 'special'

What is for instance the maximum income tax in the UK?
I think that the maximum income tax in Scandinavia is 70% and here in The Netherlands it's 52%
