GeForce 9800GT idle temp question..?

Afternoon,

My recently purchased Asus 9800GT 512MB graphics card came with a software utility called SmartDoctor. This measures the temperature of the graphics chip. I am a little worried at the idle temperature, and want somebody to please re-assure me... or warn me

With the fan set to 100% the idle temp is 63 degrees C. When gaming this rises to 80/85 degrees C. The BIOS on the card has been brought up-to-date (made no difference), and my case is as clutter-free as possible with regards to cables. If I run the PC with the side of the case off, the idle temp drops to 52 degrees C, and no more than 65 when gaming.

Therefore, my main question is - should I be worried?

For reference, my card is the following:

Check airflow around your case. If it's not as bad with the cover off, then it looks to me like a problem with the case, not the graphics card itself.

Check that you have set the rear fan as an exhaust fan, blowing air out of the system.

It doesn't really have any fans..! It's as Asus 'Vintage' case - was built for me as a barebones kit.

I recently bought an Antec 300 Gaming Case as I'm building a new PC myself, and the 9800GT will be moving into it. This case has many fans, so I hope the temp will drop?

However (in the meantime) - somebody else has told me that this chip will be okay upto about 90 degrees C.

My 8800GT (Essentially the same as the 9800GT) idles at 60deg.

Seems to be happy enough. Tho, it is about to be watercooled :)
