GeForce Experience woes

My brother in law got himself a gaming PC, unfortunately he went against my advice and offer to build one for him, he got a prebuilt desktop.

He's having problems with it and frankly in the few minutes i had with it i struggled to find the problem, it seems to be centered around GeForce experience.

Assetto Corsa has really bad performance, the first thing i did was to turn the settings down, that had no effect.
There is a message; due to low performance it was advisable to adjust in the GPU settings, i'm assuming its talking about GeForce Experience, however. despite me upgrading it and the driver the the latest version it fails to recognize the game exists, i went through adding it manually but that for some reason only lets you select the install folder, not the exe, after adding the install folder its still not adding it to the games list.

Having given up on that i went back into the game and found an option to turn off all enhancements, doing that got the game playing smooth, well, while smooth enough it didn't fell nice to me at all even tho he was happy, this on visibly very low IQ.

Another thing he complained about was his IQ settings in other games randomly adjusting to higher settings making them unplayable.

The only answer i have to that was to turn off auto adjust in GeForce Experience, i don't yet know if that was a cure.

So there is that and what seems to me a very under performing GTX 760, the few games he has will only run smooth on the lowest possible IQ settings.

Geforce Experience is just an App and doesn't or shouldn't affect performance. It uses little in the way of resources and I would look to something else being the problem. Can you list his full system spec.

Only had the time to look through Computer Properties.

Intel i5 of some description.
GTX 760

Its an OEM prebuilt off the shelf Desktop, exactly what i told him not to get, don't even know the brand, Acer, i think

Did you run afterburner and check if the card is clocking up? It has been known in the past that a bad driver install can lock the cards in idle mode and this could be why he has shocking performance.

Personally dont use Geforce Experience think its a waste of time and causes more problems than solves.

I would also go through the BIOS and check all the settings, check what bloatware has been installed in programs and features and remove it

No, unfortunately it was a flying visit and he has young Kids who wanted to be on it.

I'm just trying to understand it so i can advise him over the phone or do it with knowledge of whats wrong.

Well it is hard to say without feedback on what is happening.

Good point Varkanoid. I have helped a few friends out with problematic PCs and the OEM systems are chocked full to the brim with bloatware. People don't grasp things like only running one AV software instance and grab a couple. So many variables, it is very hard to say.

I would ask him to remove it.. Never been a fan of programs or games selecting best settings... They never pick whats best.

For example Crysis 3 on a 290 will select ultra for all most all the settings, while it will run it wouldn't run at the best frame rates..

Same for GE or Raptr for that matter! Although I have never used these two programs for picking best settings. My point is from a games auto detection of best settings.

I don't use it for Game Optimization, it keeps telling me i should run High FXAA in BF4, no thanks to that blurry crap. i use it to collect points for freebies, and recording.

With GE you have to tell it first to detect optimal settings and then use them, it wont just do it.

All these things are supposed to simplify PC gaming for the likes who buy off the shelf PC's.

I'm tempted to say to him "well i told you so, should have listed to me" and then leave him to sweat it for a while. :D

Yeah I use Raptr for everything else apart from this feature. Having little Google about I see quite number posts about GE giving people lag.. One game had COD run at lower frame rate till he closed down GE

Edit
Get ready for Thief Bench thread.. I see a wave of new scores coming.

I know i have been getting the emails, it will have to wait until tomorrow. i'm away and my attention here is intermittent.

Make sure shadowplay is disabled or set as manual in gfe, on auto it will be cache recording the previous 10-15mins or what ever it is. Either way it could be harming performance.

May also be an idea to ddu and reinstall the driver again, also with it being prebuilt crud, it wouldn't hurt totake a peak at what other programs are running, not uncommon for these machines to come bloated with complete crap.

A 760 should be handling assetto easily, iirc at 1080p I could max it out at 120fps with only around 70-80% utilisation on a single 780, that is unless something within the game has changed fundamentally since I last picked it up.
