Geforce GT 1030 (GP108) Rumours

Rumours of a GT 1030 started to spread yesterday after it made an appearance in an AIDA64 update. It's never going to set the gaming community on fire. But if it is indeed based on a GP108 it should have all the features required for a modern HTPC; 4K, 8K, HEVC, HDR, DP 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, HDCP 2.2

Whilst there are mid-range cards with this feature set, there hasn't been anything in a low profile / passively cooled form factor. Rumoured to go on sale 17th May.

The RX550 for pre-built PCs actually has 25% more shaders than the one being sold at retail.

GP108 is therefore an even smaller chip than the GP107, which is installed on the graphics solutions GTX 1050 & Co.. Up to 512 shaders are allocated to this new 14-nm chip, 2 GB of GDDR5 memory can be addressed via a 128-bit memory interface.

The SKU will be based on the new 14 nm "GP108" silicon, and could feature up to 512 CUDA cores, and up to 2 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide interface.

Notice how they say UPTO 512 shaders since the GP108 has 512 shaders. However,notice there should be a GT1040 too. The GTX1050 has 640 shaders already,and the GTX1050TI has 768 shaders,ie,a 128 shader difference. If the GP108 has 512 shaders,I would expect the GT1040 to have 512 shaders(128 shaders less than the GTX1050) and GDDR5.

Going by what Nvidia has done in the past,the GT1030 is more likely to have 512 shaders and GDDR3 memory or probably 384 shaders and GDDR5 memory.

It would fit perfectly with the current range.

It is incredible GT 1030 has just 30-35W TDP can match or outperformed RX 550 with 50W TDP for less than $79.

RTG had made far too many revisions on Polaris 12 and still cant reduced TDP down to 30-35W and Nvidia put RTG to shame.

It still uses NVidia drivers, that is enough to make Firemen nervous.

Knowing Nvidia though, they'll probably price this card at like £100... when one can get an RX 460 for well under that. Though as folks have said, there definitely is a market for 100% passive cooled cards with very low power draw and AMD despite going all out at the budget price range, still has managed to not produce anything that ticks those boxes.

Look like I was right,it uses 384 shaders and seems to use a 64 bit memory bus:

So there is probably a GT1040 going to be released at some point with 512 shaders and a 128 bit memory bus.

The price is 80 Euros so roughly around £67 although I am not sure if that includes any taxes.
