GeForce GTX 590 Key Features Revealed

Yeah by about 2mm, im sure that will greatly enhance the cooling by vast multiples of degrees...

Yes but many people with AMD's have to wedge something between the cards as that small groove does make a difference.

It's little things that are always nice to have but not necessary. EG, a snack on a plane is nice but not necessary. However if the prices etc were similar, you'd choose the airline which gave you snack (i would anyway!) . It's the little differences that matter.

Why do I get the feeling he may be trying to sell the 480's? :D

He does not need to as the price of the gtx480 especially the gigabyte sells because its got way more power on tap than everything at stock along with a great cooler when you look at the price. The only card that can compete is the 6950 rev 1 because it can give you 6970 performance which equals the gtx480. those gigabyte cards come with a good cooler though so they are hard to ignore.

Haha like that it rolls out with Crysis 2, that'll be interesting....

Also Gibbo I demand a burger comparison! And I'm not talking about size, I'm wondering how many burgers I could buy for the cost of one of these?! A lifetime's supply maybe?

If you are talking burgers and the 6990 is one burger, performance wise i think the burgers will be the same. If you are talking price i think the gtx590 will be 1.2 burgers. Theres just no way 2xgtx580 gpu's will cost sub £700 making the card a wate of time. I am not even sure nv can take the performance crown either, as they will need somewhere close to full gtx580 clocks to do that. I am sure that nv will try though so expect a beast of a card.

They could always sell it as a loss-leader in a short run just so they can roll out the PR machine of "We have produced and sold the fastest graphics card on the market"...(And both of the cards we made were bought by Gibbo of OcUK ;) )

I think noise may be similar if the cores produce about as much heat, the amd fan is pure pressure related, the nvidia seems to want to shift air.

This should do to retake the initiative for nvidia, as neo said if I was nvidia I would to this at cost and rip the 6990 apart.

All I want to see is competition. I think nvidia will be ok next round due their focus, and the fact that it was nvidia's errors that gave amd this last round.

Although why the heck are they producing what seems like a standard width card. I havent thought this through but mounting the cores side by side on a wider pcb would surely give a massive temp bomus if you had them at the rear vent.

theres no way im gonna have enough money to do this, but as soon as i saw the GTX590 my first thought was "can you SLI it?"

there probably sod all that going to benefit from it, but still, my 5 year old self wants to know

Hogwash, balderdash, stuff and nonsense! 6990 is itself downclocked. GTX 590 will take the crown. If it couldn't NVIDIA wouldn't release.

They released the 470, slower than the 5870 at a significantly higher price. nVidia will release it even if it's slower, if it's slower, they'll come up with some sort of test to show that it's faster "across the board" but in reality, only in very very specific situations.

The 6990 may be downclocked, but they'll have to downclock the 580 GPUs even more (as a percentage) to keep it manageable. 6970 Crossfire is up there with 580 SLi anyway, so they're likely to be very very close. The 6990 is over priced, but the 590 is going to be overpriced on a whole new level, it'll be past the point of ridiculous. I see it as them doing it to "save face" in a sense.

I am willing to wager that the card is going to weigh in at £800+
