Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if it was possible to have four in the same system and how much of an improvement I would get with four SLI instead of the standard two SLI setup.

I looked on Google and found little to nothing on the subject, I'm hoping the collective of techno wizards here on Overclockers can help me out.

I've seen some weird scaling on a night of reading a ton of reviews where I found hardware.info showed that GTX 680 SLI in Battlefield 3 outperformed 3-way and 4-way 680s, and where 4-way did beat SLI - it was only slightly more fps (120fps SLI Vs 131fps 4-way). The same can be said of Skyrim which starts to look CPU limited too. Guess we can put that down to the drivers despite Nvidia being pretty good at maturing drivers ahead of release.

Other games such as Crysis 2 are CPU limited as you'll see with the numbers being bunched up, Metro 2033 scaling isn't as good compared to 7970s with fewer GPUs.

Also take into consideration energy consumption, this page will give some idea that 1500W is needed for 4, 1000W for SLI. The Cooler Master RSA50-SPHAD3 (£215) can handle 4-GPUs. That is given consideration to your CPU being oc'd to at least 4.5Ghz and it being watercooled with a couple HDDs/a SSD, high perf mobo + RAM, no soundcard since there's no room.

You really need to consider your whole system to minimise bottlenecks. I've seen that SB CPUs compete well with IB up to SLI/CF, beyond that I'm not sure. For that kinda of expense and amount of GPUs its not worthwhile unless your using 3+screens. 680 SLI is enough for 1600p but the bigger 4GB edition are due 6 months time if you like a big dollop of AA.
