Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

The only downside to modern tech is the lack of content. UHD HDR is amazing but I'm not buying a PS4 that I'll rarely use and I'm already bored of The Grand Tour. :p

Horizon, TGT, Altered Carbon, The Matrix and Pacific Rim In 4K HDR even my non OLED Sony 49E9005 opened my eyes to what HDR could do.

Ah well, back to the PS4 then. Maybe try again in 6 months :p

A bit crap not be to able to game on my PC for ages, but I'm not buying a 2.5 year old card for £500-700!!
on the bright side it will encorage me to check out some of the untouched 4 year old + games on my steam collection which my gtx 980 can still nail, maybe even @4K. and like you i also have a ps4 pro library largely untouched.

by the time the next card does come out, the current full price games i am now waiting on till i can do justice may be in humble bundle territory ;)

PS HDR on PS4 pro games is incredible.. i wish the PC games which support HDR on console ports would get patched to also support HDR on PC. its certainly not a technical limitation.

Annoyingly my receiver isn't 4K capable and my HTPC's GPU isn't HEVC capable so right now I am resitricted to stuff I can access via the TV itself (iPlayer demo reel and Amazon Prime). I do have a Minix U9-H, which I eventually plan to put into another room but that should support HEVC UHD HDR stuff, I just need to find the time to set it up properly!

Ultimately I'll need to get a new GPU but I remember seeing a passive GTX 1050 Ti for maybe £130 a year ago and now they are £180, so sod that. The GTX 1030 and 1050 don't seem future proof (they don't even have enough VRAM for Netflix UHD), so I'll probably wait until the next generation of cards and get either a GTX 1130 or 1150. I might be able to avoid getting a new AVR by just plugging the HTPC straight into the TV and using ARC to send the audio to the AVR, I'd lose lossless audio though.

I am very much looking forward to the UHD HDR World Cup trials on iPlayer though! :D

Seems any Pascal replacement (or refresh) is very long way out
http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/nv...w-gamers-geforce-is-a-long-time-from-now.html

So the initial estimation for Q1 2019 is correct, given that the presentation takes place end of August.

That has been discussed here and I don’t buy. He just wants to make sure he can sell is old pascal tech at full price. That said, if nothing is out by August I might just grab a 1080Ti cheap as possible for a few months to play a few games that I fancy then sell it again once done and go back to my 1050 :D

I would buy a 1080Ti now, but currently people’s expectations on second hand cards is ludicrous imo.

Announcement and availability in August.

Jensen's comment was designed and intended to help blast out remaining Pascal inventory. And don't expect any further "leaks" (cough cough) to drop for the next few weeks at least, unless it's more ambiguity about launch timing.

I hope you're right!

I suspect many of those who try to sell used GPU's for ludicrous prices are the same folks that complain about Nvidia's "rip-off" pricing :D.
One might say they're entitled to do that because new parts are so expensive but used goods should really be a max of 2/3 to 75% max the value of new, even just a few months old, let alone a year +,and potentially having been used 24/7 mining :P

Navi is supposedly the 480s replacement.

Yeah, but according to all infos amd published last months it'll come earliest in June 19. Probably later.
NVIDIA launching its next-gen GeForce GTX 1180 on July 30

Not long to wait next month, hopefully it will have custom cards ready next month, if not then custom cards will launch in August a month after Founders Edition.

Maybe we will have some leaks pictures of GTX 1180 card and GPU die in a few weeks time.

I don't think we will see customs so soon. If partners were informed early, we would have leaks already. Partners are always leaking some infos. It seems partners will get infos very late and then need time to design the customs. I wouldn't expect a custom gpu before late september.

We know this story is not true as various industry people would not know the exact date.

Only NVidia will know the exact date and that could change at a moments notice.

Article looks like more click bait.

Come on, what are you? A sloppy journalist... 1 day away from August is hardly next month.

Way I see it is there is a much bigger difference in image quality using High on 4K vs Ultra on 1440P. 4K still better and the grunt needed between the two is reduced a lot.

Spot on. Indeed, at 4k on a high dpi monitor, you often don't need many of the ultra enhancements.

That be fine by me, the difference between a WC Ref 1080ti and a custom PCB was so small its not really worth it unless you want to go up the 3dmark leaderboads

I am fairly sure nVidia people must know the date, events take time to organise, you need hotel availability, marketing, conference bookings etc. This won't be planned and done in a week, or 2, not even a month before. But they don't need to, the date is probably already known to a number of people within nVidia (who are already planning the event) and will be announced to the public when they deem necessary. Yes, it could be leaked, but my guess is that why risk your job to let a few gaming nerds know about a new GPU? It is not like they are going to make any money out of it.
