Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

according to Kitguru / Gamers Nexus, event has been cancelled / scaled back due to excessive inventories of Pascal chips needing shifting, and delaying launch of next gen cards further.

Then my assumption wrote on another post could be right.
The continuous rumour mill since end of last year about the next gen of GPUs, has slowed down sales to the point that NV now needs an NDA to put some brakes to it. Because it hurt current sales.
And given 300,000 GPUS returned is not a small number especially considering that this happened because the AIB (one of MSI/Asus/Gigabyte) has stock that cannot sell fast enough.

This is complete nonsense. rumour s of future products is nothing new in the slightest.

if there is excess inventory then the quite obvious explanation is nicks increased production to meet supply due to the mining sales, you know when everyone was complaining that AMD and Nvidia should increase supply, but then the mining scene went just and demand dropped.

but given the current prices in dubious that excess stock is that severe.

Also, since this is a 1080ti replacement some of the price rumours would be referring to the 2080ti and not the 2080 class.

It looks more likely like is destined for Titan or other uses like AI and cars.
No, not with GDDR6, and the die size would makes no sense when there is the GV100 for AI and HPC.
For cars Nvidia have a separate Volta based GPU that is much smaller.

3x 8 pins!

:D

Its a test board so common to have a much higher power source than actually required. Helps test frequency and power limits, or to provide more stable power.

Going by the size, it will be a 1080ti replacement, and on 12nm.Not surprising as 7nm is not ready for large GPUs for consumers this year.

This photo could be old, but if it is recent then it liekly means that nvidia didn't have a n over supply issue with Pascal, because such an engineering board should have been sent out sooner if there was originally a release scheduled for now, last quarter.
