Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Would be nice if there was more speculation on the cards than the price tag. I am curious which models people have chosen and why, if they've pre-ordered.

I went with founders - if I am going to get one I don't want to be waiting and not knowing when they are coming in, plus I plan on watercooling (core only) so going by past efforts there's no benefit to a custom PCB and the switch to twin fan on the founders makes even less of a case for going with AIB cooling

@Gibbo

Any idea when pre-orders will be going live for these or release date?

Think I'd rather buy pre-blocked this time, instead of doing it myself.

Thanks

If it’s like Pascal and the voltage is hard limited in the GPU then it makes a much smaller difference to buy expensive cards. I ordered a pair of the MSI Duke’s as I will be waterblocking anyway, the promo price was the lowest also so figured resale value with reasonable air cooling.

Pascal launch some of the cards like Palit and Zotac were actually the strongest clockers out the box. On the subject of which just occurred to me the ‘after show’ demos had a founders running 2,130mhz+ vs 2,000mhz pascal founders demo so potentially these are going to clock mega fast!
Smart move. I chose Gigabyte Windforce and figured if the cooling doesn't perform as well as advertised then I will set up a waterblock. For some reason I didn't think much of the Duke on first sight, but after looking again it seems like a solid card. I still don't like 'Duke' on the backplate or side though myself. To be fair though I don't think the backplate on the Gigabyte models look much better in regards to style.

Understandable. I'm very curious how the cooling on the FE will perform. It looks quite good to me. I also am wondering if the rumor of the FE getting better binned chips is true.

The Duke on the back looks daft yes, but will be removed :)

As a PS4 pro and a 1080ti owner with a pre order for a gtx 2080, I can honestly say any comparison's to console gaming really is a mute point for any self respecting pc owner as quite simply the majority of any big releases run at 30fps , a PS4 pro is a excellent device for PS4 exclusive titles and no way would I buy a game that is available on PC and PS4 ,on PS4 , due to the frame rates etc

The majority of people are still going for the solution which offers best price/performance ratio. For a long time consoles were no match for the PC, but still the consoles sold way better and games are still made primary for them, with PC being an afterthought.

Sure, you'll go for your passion and hobby as much as the wallet allows, but you're a (relative) minority. :)

That isn't the point he was arguing though, we all know PC gamers are the minority but using a controller in certain titles at 30fps is a horrible experience once you've played on a decent PC.

I don't think it's simply down to price/performance for why consoles are more popular, many people own both or even three of the latest consoles and when you add up the extra cost of titles over the years you wouldn't be far off someone who bought a 1080p 60fps gaming PC at the same time imo. For consoles it's down to ease of use and plug and play, as well as the fact that most don't know any better with framerates and what not as they've likely never experienced proper PC gaming.

This isn't some PC master race post either as I own and see the benefit of consoles, the switch for example is brilliant yet has the worst graphics and framerates of the lot. Singleplayer exclusives are a huge factor in ownership.
