Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

And then loads of people saying 'Don't buy it! It's ancient tech! Double your budget for the 1180!' repeat every two to three years ad nauseum.
Whereas the alternative viewpoint you advocate is, "Always buy today! Even if a better, cheaper card is coming next week! Don't ever wait! YOLO, it's only money! Herpity derpity derp, derpity derp, herpy derp."

True, but there comes a time to buy instead of waiting for the next big thing. A 1080ti for <£600 is a great buy. For less than £500 it still represents a amazing card that will keep you going for 3-4 years at 1080p and 2-3 years at 1440p. It will even do you 2 years at 4k if you don't mind dropping a few settings here and there. I also suspect that the 1170 will be £500+, the 1180 £650+ and the 1180ti when it launches will easily be £850+ initially. Because Nvidia can, and RAM prices are still through the roof.

NVIDIA are really longing this out. Sadly I don't see cards coming this year which would be crazy.

AMD cards still overpriced too. Really want to play Witcher 3 / GTA V / ROTR at some point and my 670 doesn't cut it obviously.

Might just get a 1080ti but I'm a bit fearful of noise compared to the 1180 when it does drop.

Chances are the first 1180's that drop will be Founders Edition cards with blower coolers so not quiet at all. You could always pick up a 1070/1080 as a stop gap. I have a 1080 at 2560x1080 and it plays everything at 60FPS. I'm not planning on a upgrade at all.

come back for that special offer in September.... 2019 :p:D
I don’t think we will ever see it sold at that price brand new. If they were to drop to £595 they would probably sell out as people would be like ZOMG, 1080Ti bargain, why wait, buy and enjoy today, YOLO!

Then a month or less later the new card comes out and you start seeing threads with people being depressed as they now have old tech and people are all talking about the new cards. Lol. I remember it clearly when people were buying the overpriced 980Ti’s just before the 1070 came out.

That’s why I would not pay much more than £400 for a 1080Ti. Not to mention they could be had for £550 over a year ago if I recall correctly.

I can't see a new 1080ti ever dropping below £500, never mind £400 new.

:D I think you guys read too much into my post. Do you remember when the 1070's came out and a few months after Gibbo did a deal on 980Ti's for less than £300, think one was £259. I just was making a joke because it's going to be so long until Nvidia release their next cards that it would be September 2019 before OCUK do a special deal on 1080Ti's. :p

Of course it's not funny if I have to explain it ;):D

Just don't buy. Still selling for silly prices.
Exactly this.

Of course somebody will be along to say they aren't silly prices; they're normal USD prices and it's all Brexit's fault we pay more :p

But this gen is a complete anomaly due to prices actually increasing during the product's life-cycle, and only after two years returning to RRP. And probably will never dip down to a level we'd consider EOL pricing.

They may has well bypass 11\12nm and go for 7nm with all the indecisions and delays and trying to get every last penny for what is now old tech Gpu`s

Until something new arrives, these are current tech GPUs. Just because they have been out for a while is irrelevant.

You don't see Ford or VW dropping prices because the current model Focus or Golf have been out a couple of years :P

To be honest the current state of PC GPUs has made me give up on PC gaming for now. We're at the stage where 2 year old tech is selling for more than it cost at launch! Memory prices are just as bad.

I'm sticking with console until some sanity (or rather competition) returns to the market. When you look at what's available in the console and mobile phone/tablet sector, and the performance leaps they're continuing to make year on year, you can't help but wonder if the days of desktop PC gaming are numbered.

Logic dictates that if/when they catch up they will have the same problems. (I doubt AMD or nV are just "doing it wrong" :p)

Phone/tablet GPUs are only able to make rapid progress because they were starting from a much lower bar.

But I'm 100% with you on the sorry state that PC tech is in right now (stagnation).

Even gaming overall is in a sorry state. First it was the greed of DLC, then lootboxes/drop rates. Now endless long early access games that never seems to complete for years. Unless you buy single player story games. Plus everything seems to be Battle Royale.

I'm quite happy to wait for now. My Titan XM provides decent performance. The new high-refresh rate 4K monitors require the bandwidth that HDMI 2.1 provides but don't have HDMI 2.1 ports and there are no video cards that support HDMI 2.1.
