Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

The ti seems to be more of a paper launch to say the least, really wouldn't surprise me if we don't see these being received by customers until early\mid October.

The ti is a huge chip so maybe not to surprising if they don't have huge volume. Titan V is bigger and been around for a good while now so I would have thought good volume at launch was achievable. Something with this launch is not sitting right with me but NV usually pull it off in the end.

Tbh though I have grown impatient AS the market is so slow these days. Was spoiled by the much faster pace of releases in the noughties.

Gonna be some slightly irked people on the 20th not getting notification of their orders shipping.

It feels like they have rushed to announce but are playing catch up to release it ... which is a bit weird considering the apparent lack of competition so they could have had time to pick a later announce date and have the supply chain ready to go from the outset ... thereby having far less rumour and speculation.

Or do they think that there is some form of competition on the horizon that they need to be out of the traps first to beat?

The only competition they really have at the top end is themselves and 7nm which should be next year sometime. They want the 20xx series to have as much time as possible in the marketplace before then. AMD might offer some mid-range competition with Navi but that's a way off yet.

No doubt there is a method to their strategy which only they will be privy to.

Its worth remembering that pascal sales would have been dropping off pretty sharply, between mining sales petering out and saturation in the gamer market I suspect if they hadn't released something new even without competition their bottom line would have taken a hit over the next year. This mixed with them failing to get worthwhile gaming performance out of volta last year, they probably had to come out with something quicker than they would have liked.

Tbh i think Pascal sales might have gone back up due to the 2 series being a rip off. Nvidia win either way.

What kills it for me is the fact that currently based on what we know you need a 2080ti to use RT at 1080p.

What's the point in the new cards main feature or an upgrade? My 1080 is fine at 1440p.

Has anything changed regarding RT performance?

Devils advocate, perhaps they’ve sneaked some info out of AMD that has motivated them to hurry the hell up?

Unlikely I know but I have no doubt they have eyes closer to AMD than we do.

Dice have said they turned down some of the effects in BFV as they were overblown to show it off so should result in better performance. Besides that not much more info concerning it.

FWIW the retailer I bought my EVGA XC Ultra 2080 ti from has told me they will have stock on 20th and will ship it on 20th, so all things being well and DPD being able to find my new build house, I should have it on the 21st.

According to gibbo their supply of TI was delayed by around 4 days or so, suppose some might get some on launch day or possibly they're saying that for people to keep their orders.

Actually that is not true. If the performance of the Gigabyte RTX2080 is true, doing at 2000 clock just 27085 Graphics score on Firestrike, is not that far off (95 points) from a downvolted Vega 64 with just a 8600K not a 8700K

A Vega 64 is not going to be competing with 2080. A 1080Ti already wrecks it in majority of 4K titles.

Unlikely I'll be buying any of these as my 980Ti is still going strong (please don't die), but I have to say just how nice I think these new designs look (reference and AIB). Gorgeous.
