Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

£469 is a VERY good price/performance for a 1080.
12 months ago maybe. But today when the 1170 is likely around the corner?

There is a high probability that in a couple of months time people will be enjoying their 1170 for cheaper which will provide superior performance and run while lot cooler and quieter. Oh and it will be nice and shiny :)

Your going to be waiting awhile for a 1170. Happy waiting:p

Why would Nvidia sell their next top card with the same performance as there top last gen? Doesn't make sense? I very much doubt it'll be a sidegrade.

He was talking about people who have 1080Ti's at the moment buying a 1180 card not a 1180Ti. The 1180 won't be the top card just like the 1080 isn't the top card in the Pascal lineup.

It’s cheaper then most custom cards. Just bought one.

But which VRAM? Nvidia website always had the FE with the slow GDDR5X. While AIBs since March 2017 have the faster one similar to the one used on the GTX1080Ti and the Titan Xp

Pascal with gddr6 lol

Shhhhh dont wake them up from their dreaming of a brand new 7nm architecture....

It might very well be Pascal evolved on 12 nm, what we have to decide is, would that be a bad thing.

We all know that 7nm is coming next year some time, so 12nm is all they have got to work with right now.
What could they do with an evolved Pascal, maybe higher clocks. Think back to Maxwell evolving into Pascal, slightly more power needed with higher core count, but much higher clocks, an extra 4/500 MHz in most cases, could that be pulled off again, maybe.
All the rumours seem to reckon a bigger core count jump to the 1180 than from the 980ti to the 1080, maybe they will unleash it with a much higher power allowance and really boost those clocks.

A 2.6 GHz 3584 core monster would be seriously quick. or of course it could all be billy hooks.

I'd be surprised if a AIB 1170 is available before November. Hardly 'a couple of months'

A drop in price on the Nvidia store to shift existing stock plus a leak of a 1180 supposedly going on for preorder available September 28th which would be 4 weeks from the initial rumour of August 28th ( which is about right ) seems very likely this will be releasing in the next 6 - 7 weeks

What are we expecting in terms of performance? I'd be happy with an 30% bump over 1080 Ti less power and heat and noise would be a win.

Some of us have a modicum of patience, and understand that buyer's remorse is a real thing.

Nothing is going to make you feel like a muppet more than buying a last gen card near full RRP, just before a new gen lands and makes your card look dated.

The 10 series already looks dated btw. Probably because it's over two years old.

Enjoy your ancient card :p

If the FE is good for noise and heat i.e. a lot better than my 290 GE MSI (which is udnervolted to -31mv) then that will do me just fine (as long as the pricing isn't silly.....)

- 1170 with performance between 1080 and 1080ti
- much better low level API support
- more efficient i.e. less heat and quieter

For £350 (£400 at a push but then it will need to be within 5-10% of a 1080ti.....) and I'll be happy.

I suspect 1170 is more likely to be £450, 1180 £550 and 1180ti £750.

Yup probably :o

Hopefully people this time round will vote with their wallet and etailers will have no choice but to drop prices but sadly most people have no will power nor principles now :p
Considering the attitude of most of the internet, telling everyone to wait as there's new cards coming in a couple of months since January, people won't be able to hold back. And Nvidia know it and will charge accordingly.
