Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

I agree with him.

But we don't know if AMD's cards to come in 2019 are mid range or high end. A lot depends on that.

I hope he is right and Nvidia are working on a 7nm GPU to replace the 2000 series at realistic prices.

In other words if you already have a 1070ti and up card (maybe even include the 1070) then there there really isn't any reason to upgrade.

Skip this generation.

All the rumours point to 2019 Navi cards being mid-range, i.e. £250-350. So it still won't be much of a reason to upgrade for those on 1070 & higher. I honestly don't think skipping generations makes a lot of sense anymore, it's looking like the CPU game all over, i.e. small performance increases with new releases for the £££, gotta wait for years in order to truly get your money's worth from an upgrade. If you want it cheaper the better (?) option is going to be SH. 7nm Turing or whatever's next will most likely improve perf/£ (we can hope!) but I really don't think it's a 2019 release, and at best what can you really expect, same performance for £100 less (ignoring 80ti where there will be higher cuts)? That's a long time to wait for that discount when you can be enjoying better performance now.

Ah yes, worth every penny with all those extra e-peen points gained. :D

EVGA are releasing an aio kit as well last i heard, an FE with one of those would be a good way to go if you want a quieter card and high clocks, and still be cheaper than most of the third party cards. Only problem there is evga are historically slow at getting decent supply of them for some reason, not as if there's much to an aio kit really.

Personally I am looking to WC, so the FE still seems the best option on that front. It would be hard to ignore even if I was staying on air given the price, but I would lean towards a quieter card I think, it's just a shame some of the prices are so nuts.

I noticed an article where DICE were talking about Ray Tracing, and they mentioned they've offloaded loads of stuff to the CPU to get the performance where it needs to be.

But yeah - with the way they've done it you might be a disadvantage on a 4 core CPU with no hyperthreading.

So basically since the RTX cards are incapable to do ray tracing at meaningful fps, work is offloaded to less efficient CPU's? What next, 16 core needed for good fps?

How would you do it? If using the CPU gives more performance, do it. I have a 6c 12t CPU and in games that use multi cores, the usage is low across the board, so gaining performance from using the CPU is a great move.

When people, including myself, pointed out few months back that the RTX2080Ti will be incapable to do Ray Tracing at meaningful performance (fps), you and many others dismished us, attacking our integrity as forum users. Lets not forget when pointed out the FPS on BF5 and Tomb Raider, you said "it will be optimised by the time they come out".

Now yourself admit that RTX2080Ti is not fit for purpose, and ray tracing needs to be offloaded to CPU?

When a game is available with Ray Tracing enabled we will be able to test it for ourselves, until then it is a waste of time arguing about what ifs.

I feel like this recently - used to just buy new gpu when old one could not run games properly anymore. Now find myself checking and fussing about hardware all the time. Think this is upgraditis

Where are you seeing the RTX cards are incapable of doing RT? What games have it at the mo and what fps are they getting? Where on earth have I said that the RTX 2080Ti is not fit for purpose or are you not able to read? And yes indeed, I certainly did dismish you :D

Sure :)

I decided to skip the 20 series, keep my 1060, and got an XBOX one and Red Dead from the Rain Forest for £229, just waiting for delivery.

I would rather have got a shiny new GPU, but not interested at these prices (for 2 year old Tech, or the new 20's) I think I might go buy some Jerky from Tesco to get me in the mood, Wonder if they sell Bourbon too.....

Gaming, I remember that. Actually been really enjoying FFXV when I have some downtime and holding off playing Tomb Raider until RT is implemented but does look good without it in fairness. Still playing The Division also but eagerly awaiting The Division 2.
