Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

No he wasnt. He was insinuating I was getting weird results on my 1080.

Pretty sure you was man. I have had 4K for 4 years now, not come across anything as bad as you have described. When I get a new graphics card I just do a secure erase of my ssd so everything is gone and it is nice and fresh again. Windows installs very quickly from a usb stick and I am up and running in no time with a fresh copy of window and no hassle.

Fair one. I expected the 1080 to be closer to the Ti in fairness but then again, that is with Ultra quality, so just knock down the MSAA and you will be flying at 4K

Exactly. There is zero chance a 1080 would get 35fps with everything on low unless there is a software issue or some other bottleneck in the system. Even a 980Ti does better as Tommy said and that is things on the highest, not lowest.

Point being, 4K is nothing like what he has described.

35 FPS?? Have I had a bump on the head or is 35 FPS is good now?
But that's with Ultra settings. Maximum settings on brand new games have always been stupidly demanding for every generation of GPUs. Developers add extra features to improve image quality at the expense of performance, particularly at the top end, and eventually you get to a point of diminishing returns. Turn off one or two of the most demanding graphics settings and I'm sure that'd rise significantly.

Eh?? It didn't get 35 FPS on low. It was perfectly playable. It looked like garbage though!
My point was I couldn't get it smooth at a "decent" graphics setting.

Because you didn't try. I've always had decent graphics at playable frame rates the only time I didn't was at the start of 4k for me where I ran a R9 390 and played tombr raider reboot on low med. If you get 35fps lows on max youll see around 55fps lows everything high/very high and aa off

There are now 7 4k users all saying you're either saying all max is only decent grapics (high far surpasses max at 1080) or not tweaking properly. Tweaking is a part of 4k early adoption. It's perfectly easy to get a 1080 and get playable frame rates on any game on 4k with good settings.
I bet you have g synch too

Ummmm the R9 390 can only do 30hz at 4k which means it can never go higher than 30fps so your Tomb Raider never got more than 30fps on the R9 390...

No (am sat at a machine with R9 390X in it right now - no display port.)
You are starting to sound like beany boy. Just because your card and experience says it does not work, it must mean the same for everyone else.

Hell my R9 290 which is an even older card does 60hz just fine on 4K. It depends on what connection one uses. If you try an hdmi cable then sure, it won’t be 60hz. But if you use display port which majority of those cards will likely have, it will do 60hz just fine ;)

My 290X cards are fine with DisplayPort @2160p/60htz.

Care should be taken to buy good quality DP cables for use @2160p and to use the shortest possible ones.

I am lucky to get 60FPS in FO4 at qHD on a GTX1080 with 4K textures and one of the lighter ENBs!

ARK is just as bad!! Forget 4K with these games(unless you turn down settings).
