Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Well according to one rumour that segment is going to double in price.
GTX 1160 will be about the same performance as the 1070 is now and will retail for about £250 is my guess.

I hope its the latter but TBH I wouldn't be surprised at former too! :(

Having said that I do wonder if the GTX1180 will be over 550mm2 though?

TSMC 12NM is a low leakage version of TSMC 16NM which means bigger chips.

I wonder if the biggest leap will be hardware support for Nvidia RTX?

Well it was wccftech and as we know they will print anything and everything, just so they can say they were right after the fact.;)

I've actually fallen in love with wccftech, fake news or not it's just a spam of news which I love, every other tech site seems so slow compared with it.

Anyway 1080 launch, I'm sat here with the $ for 2 1080's for SLI madness (before they ditched it over the last couple of years). Price drops

O_O

no thx jeff

If price is decent this time I may upgrade my 970, but I'm still on an 8 yr old 1080p perfect monitor, so it'll be for DSR madness that makes my 970 a slideshow, or I may use the money for baked beans whilst at uni, decisions decisions :D

No one in their right mind should be paying anything more than £150 for R9 290/R9 390/GTX970/RX480/RX580/GTX1060 level of performance now :o

Agreed. They were under £200 brand new around 3 years I ago I think? Been able to grab them second hand for around £100 2 years now.

:eek::o

It even says in the link - TLDR: This is just a rumor and it does not confirm anything (including the ‘GTX 1180’ name)

More speculation, just what this thread needs :D

Yeah it could be name as GTX 1180, GTX 2080 or a new number.

There is a fun fact about Geforce 900 series everybody probably never knew about it included me was very surprised to read Videocardz twitter that 2 weeks before GTX 970 and GTX 980 hard launch on 18 September 2014. The fun fact was that GM204 original name was not GTX 970 and GTX 980, actually the original name was Geforce 800 series GTX 870 and GTX 880, however Nvidia changed the mind around on 4 September 2014 when Nvidia partners was busy printed GTX 870 and GTX 880 cardboard boxes, coolers stickers and manuals before send first batch of shipments to retailers.

https://twitter.com/VideoCardz/status/1021857685472509952

I never knew how much AIB partners wasted money on printed high quality GTX 870 and GTX 880 cardboard boxes, coolers stickers and manuals and also didn't know how much Nvidia wasted on printed GTX 870 and GTX 880 reference coolers and manuals.

I wonder if the 11 series will have a virtualLink VR connector on the back of it?

I really hope it does and as nvidia were a partner making it then they hopefully had a good heads up on the design spec.

Oh great. Getting the same performance as the 4.5 year old 980 Ti for £250?! No thanks. The 1160 needs to hit the £200 mark for cheaper models, but it won't. More likely £250 for the very cheapest, most basic model. Or they could hike prices yet again, so £300 for 1160s this gen.

However the 11 series will push the 10 series cards down in price, would be a good time to pick up a 1080ti around the £250-£350.

Can't see that happening unfortunately. I think we'll be lucky to even get a 1080 for £300 when the new gen releases, even though this 2.3 years old, OLD product should be £250 by now. 1080 Ti's should be £350 tops when the 1180 is on the market.

I agree, they post up all of the news as soon as possible, then people complain some of it is not correct. At least it is interesting and updated a lot. Are people not capable of reading the articles then deciding if they think it is legit or not?

NVIDIA announces ‘GeForce Gaming Celebration’ on August 20

https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-announces-geforce-gaming-celebration-on-august-20

Next generation Geforce launch event is 3 weeks away in 21 days. :D

This is the perfect event to launch a new GPU, I believe it was August the 660 Ti was launched I can't remember any other gpu's that have launched around the August time frame?

There are quite a few new games I'm looking forward to playing I don't think my 980 Ti could keep up with at 4k constant 60 fps hmm might just treat myself as my pay day is 5 days later :D

With all of this being said also what are we expecting in terms of performance?

if we look at the previous X80 non Ti Gpu's and pit them against the previous generation flagship graphics card would look like the below:

GTX 680 was roughly 30-35% faster than GTX 580
GTX 780 was roughly 30-35% faster than GTX 680
GTX 780 Ti was roughly 20-25% faster than GTX 780
GTX 980 was roughly 10-15% faster than GTX 780 Ti
GTX 980 Ti was roughly 25-30% faster than GTX 980
GTX 1080 was roughly 35% faster than GTX 980 Ti
GTX 1080 Ti was roughly 35% faster than GTX 1080

so with the above being mentioned the 1180 *should* be around 30-35% faster than the 1080 Ti therefor making it around 70+% faster than the 1080 which is what the 1080 accomplished against the 980 which also accomplished this against the GTX 680.
